Next year several euro countries will issue a commemorative €2 coin that has basically the same design for all participating mints. Don't know yet which countries will take part and which ones won't, but here is some information about the piece:

In case the pattern "behind" the treaty document looks familiar - that is also depicted on the Italian 50 ct circulation coins. Michelangelo designed that pavement of the Piazza del Campidoglio in Rome. And it's right there, on the Capitol in Rome (specifically, in the "Sala degli Oriazi e Curiazi" of the Palazzo dei Conservatori), where the Treaties were signed in 1957.

Guess that the English text above would be replaced by the languages of the issuing countries, and the word "Issuing Country" would be replaced by the name of, surprise, the issuing country.

I hope so, that they don't repeat that "Athens" idea from the Greek comm. coin.

I have to think of that stamp from 1990 "500 years of post", that was also printed by many countries.

Maybe that was some kind of logo? Like the English text on the Italian €2 "World Food Programme" coin ...

This is a suggestion of a "localized" piece (for Italy), not from an official source but from "frizio", a designer. He also used a new look of the common side, similar to the official one that the EU agreed upon last year. Looks neat.

Germany will probably stay outside because the 2€-CC-topics are already fixed until 2021 with presenting each of the federal sates... or they make a break like it happened within the 100€ gold-series when the 2005-coin was dedicated to the FIFA-worldcup while the planned piece from the UNESCO-series will come this year.

But, does all euro-countries will be obliged to produce that coin ? For example, some of them have not produce any 2 euro CC yet like France, Ireland, Portugal and the Netherlands... and for some, they don't want to...

Not quite sure, but I don't think that all euro countries will participate. In the Netherlands, for example, the head of state has to be depicted on all coins. They would have change the law (muntwet) first in order to make such a coin possible. And MC/SM/VA are not EU members anyway.

Later this year we will know which member state will issue and which ones will not.

More information: The Idea is that ALL 13 countries (12+Slovenia) will issue the coin. No information yet about if a new rule will be made so that the coins can be issued parallellally to the already planned commemorive coins.

So far I have not seen any official information about this; none of the EU pages (well, of the ones I have come across) specifies how many countries will take part. But having them all do it would certainly be a neat idea.

Well, it's an EU-regulation that each country may mint only a certain amount of coins. So, EU can very well also decide to let the countries bypass that rule in this case.

The official release date is 25 March, since that was the day when the treaties were signed in 1957. But that is a Sunday this year, so don't expect the coins to be available on that day.

All EU member states that have the euro will participate in this program. The design will be the same for all, except that the text, country name, etc. will be "localized". By the way, some member states that do not use the euro will also take part, e.g. Hungary with a 50 forint coin.

and hopefully all 12 different coins (except the French one, which will only be made for collectors, so the monnaiedeparis can make much money with these coins) will be in circulation.
