Program for EBTM06: Amsterdam: UPDATE 23-08-2006

Post by giberski »

Hi everyone,

Here one more time the exact time schedule, because we won't wait long!
* Friday, at the back of the station at 7pm = €5,-
* Saturday, in front of the station at 10am = €10,-
* Sunday, in front of the station at 10am = €10,- for first activity and €20,- for the bus

UPDATE:
*EDIT: 21-8 To reach Elmo and I during the meeting you can call us on this numbers:
Giberski: 0031648194017
Elmo: 0031644310810
*EDIT: 21-8 To have some more 'freedom', we will ask 10 euro for the Saturday activity

Down here you will find a schedule for the meeting this weekend! Some small things will still be hidden, but the timetables and the most important things you should know are all down here:

Program EBTM06: Amsterdam

Friday August 25
* We meet at 7pm the back of Amsterdam Central Station, western end. When you are in the station you also see exits called 'Exit Nord', you can take that one too. You will see a constructionsite (foto 1), but just walk through the borders, go left to the boats and stop by the small restaurant (foto 2.) This is where we will meet:

*After a small boat-tour and walk we will stop at this restaurant with big view on the city and harbour of Amsterdam. It's called 'het Ponthuys' and we will be there at 7.30pm. Here we will take something to drink and there is something small to eat.
Image

Costs = € 5,-
Drinks and full meals, for people who haven’t eaten, needs to be paid yourself.

Saturday August 26
* 10.00am: Meet in front of Central Station
Image
You won't believe it, but they are building here too, so just walk to the fences here in front of the station and you will see Elmo and me, I white. You can't miss us.
* 10.30am: A boat trip through the canals of Amsterdam
* 11.30am: A walkthrough through Amsterdam with many cultural stops in the city.
* Around 14.00am: Lunch at Rembrandt-square, needs to be paid yourself.
* Walkthrough continues from Rembrandt-square along some places and a stop-over for a cup of tea or something else.
* 18.00am: We meet after the walk in the heart of Amsterdam in a nice restaurant where a nice Dutch, but variant menu will be served.

Costs = € 10,00
Lunch and diner needs to be paid yourself.

* After the meal, let’s say around 21.00am, the meeting is officially finished. But the new concert/theatre season will start close after this weekend, so there are much activities to do in that neighbourhood. So people who are interested can go out with the EBT-organisation. (So this is NOT the meeting anymore, just the possibility to enlarge your day.)

Sunday August 27 (NOT OFFICIAL MEETING, EXTRA DAY)

* We still won’t tell to much, be keep the next thing in mind: DON’T EAT A BREAKFAST, we see you at 10.00 in front of the station (Photo-meeting-point will soon follow)
* 12.15pm: leave to the bus (if you can’t be by the first activity Sunday, you can meet by the bus stop at 12.15 (see map)
Image
* 12.30 bus-tour to typical Dutch tourist cities, see next link:
http://www.thebestofholland.nl/excursio ... country=UK .
This tour will (in contradiction with the website NOT be €27,- but just €20,-) Please let me know if you want to join. I need to call for the exact number of participants. Because if we have less then 15 people the trip will be cancelled by the organisation.
Update: 09-08-2006: announce yourself for the bustrip, by posting, email or PM please.

Costs = € 10,- for first activity
€ 20,- for bus trip.

Extra information:
*If you have plans for special museums (Anne Frank, Rijksmuseum and Rembrandthouse), we won't go in there, so that can be planned for yourself if you have more days.
*If you are under 18, we want to have an email or letter from you parents in which they write about that you are accompanied by a EBT-member (name and EBT-name.)
*If you are staying in Amsterdam, and you have to go to the meeting point three days we recommend you this card: http://www.gvb.nl/english/travellers/ti ... icket.html
*If you go travel by train, make sure you have enough money for the ticketmachines, at the desk (which is not always open), you pay 0.50 cent more for a trainticket.
*If you are a vegetarian, please let us know for the Saturday dinner.
*For the addicted ones, we will find many banks or cashmachines.
*Please announce in those topics if you have a bed free for sleep-overs or if you can drive to the city.
*EDIT: 21-8 To reach Elmo and I during the meeting you can call us on this numbers:
Giberski: 0031648194017
Elmo: 0031644310810
*EDIT: 21-8 To have some more 'freedom', we will ask 10 euro for the Saturday activity

*the Sunday will start at 10.00
*The pictures are in the post. You can click on them to have a better view. We made them smaller to make the post easier readable.
*Elmo and I will be dressed in white shirts during the days so you can see us better. Furthermore, we will be at the meetingpoints a half hour BEFORE the actual meetingtime. So you have enough time to find us.

If we have more information you will read the updates at the back of topic but also here with UPDATE: and the date in front on the info.

See you soon at EBTM06: Amsterdam

Can I suggest that, in the planning, you would indicate intermediate meeting points during the day ?

I mean that for example on Saturday we meet at 10.00 a.m. at the place X. Then for people who want to skip this "morning session" ; there wold be an indication that at 12.00, the group would meet at place Y ; then at 16.00 at place Z.

I believe it is somehow important to allow participants some "free time" and give them the opportunity to skip some parts of the programme whilst they could join the group afterwards.

Just a suggestion and it is mainly because I know myself that I like to stay in bed in the morning and if it starts too early I prefer to skip the morning session. Yes, I know, I am lazy and proud to be

I'm agree with the idea of the bus-tour :) doesn't mind how many hours.

And I have a question, are we going to visit any museum during the meeting, I'm going to stay between 24-28th and I want to plan a bit the free days

Thanks for organisating all that!!

Here a bit ,ore information for the forthcoming meeting. Right now I'm in the middle of France, so I keep it short, soon after meeting with Elmo, more information.

*The bus-tour will be organized if we have more then 15-20 people!!!
*The friday evening trip will cost you €5,-, to be paid by the beginning!!!
*The cost for Saturday will be 'quite' low, due to cheap activities, and, excuse me, paying for the food for every user itself!!! (right now I guess €5,-)
*If you have plans for special museums (Anne Frank, Rijksmuseum...we won't go there, so that can be planned for yourself (NOW1K )

And the last one without spoiling too much:

You can leave Saturday after dinner, or stay at last, but it would be nice to see you Sunday at ...........

See you in a month at EBTM06: Amsterdam

I (and certainly some other people) certainly hope so! Since the eventual Sunday activities aren't visible yet, it's not possible to make any train reservations - or, to be more precise, it IS possible but one must take a risk of missing something because there's a train/plane to catch.

If you have even some sort of agenda or suggestions for activities, please post them as soon as possible. I just checked the Thalys timetables, and the tickets are becoming more and more expensive as time goes by. Last week the cheapest ticket cost 16 euros, now the cheapest category is 33 euros and once those run out, it'll be about 50 euros / one way.

Why would you buy such expensive tickets then? There is a IC train that runs every hour between Amsterdam and Brussels on which you don't need a reservation ans it costs only €33,00 one way. It's even cheaper if you buy a weekend return.( €40,00) With this ticket you can leave from Brussels on Friday and come back with the last possible train on sunday evening without making reservations.timetable

The cheapest way to travel to Amsterdam is of course hitchiking, but if you have not been practising karate lately, you better choose Eurolines.

Normal return ticket from Brussel costs € 33 and promo return ticket € 23. Promo tickets are still available. They have one way tickets as well but return tickets are cheaper to use.

Eurolines busses go to most big cities in Europe as it has more than 500 destinations.

Check: http://www.eurolines.com/index.php?id=30

P.S. There is a chance that I can attend the EBTM06 in A'dam. I'll let you know later.

Convenience on board, perhaps. Or minimisation of total travel time.

And I agree with Annie that the meeting has come close enough to ask the organisers to give up the secrecy about the programme.

Hihi, ladies of a certain age do not hitchhike. :D

Gauss is on the right track, but before this conversation gets out of hand, let's just say that my real aim was to know the program and not to complain about ticket prices.

Dear Annie,

actually I was not writing to you only.

There are a lot of young people using EBT and for most, or at least some of them the price can be of some importance when deciding whether to attend the meeting or not.

I hope Eurolines with it's cheap tickets makes it easier for some of them to join.

I agree that the programme should be published pretty soon.

Yours,

Hi everyone,

The almost, for 99% definitive program for EBTM06: Amsterdam is at the beginning of this topic. Saturday Elmo and I will made a last check in Amsterdam to be sure if everything is still as it was last month. We will also make pictures of the exact meetingplaces and enter them in this first topic, so that you know where we meet. You can ask questions here on in the new topic opened by Mr Euro. If we think the question is important enough to be mentioned you will also read it in the first post of this topic. Then it will get UPDATE: in front of it with the date. So please check the topic as often as possible, and ask questions if neccessary, don't worry to PM or email me. A couple of days we will write our phonenumbers at post 1, so that you can reach us every minute of the weekend.

See you soon at EBTM06: Amsterdam
