No foul play: I mark my notes :D

The only wish left: I want to give a hit to somebody else.....

The comment is mine:

Last week Boudewijn Büch died. He's well known in the NL.
He does tV shows. He has travelled to virtually every place in the world.
And did on the spot research to interesting titbits.
I liked his shows a lot.

on May 6th Pim fortuyn was shot. He was a politician on the rise. The country went bezerk after his murder. Boudewijn Büch couldn't undersatnd this open drama. He said: death is something that has to make you quiet.

Therefore my comment:

Boudewijn Büch has passed away. "I can only be quiet"

I'll give a try...
Boudewijn Büch is dood. Daar word je wel stil van.
Boudewijn Büch is dead. There he can be well and silent. (I'm not sure about the second sentence, can't figure out the words 'word', 'wel' and 'van'. If I had to guess, I would say that
word = word or world?
wel = well, well-being?
van = friend?

Anyways this Boudewijn Büch guy is dead. He was a Dutch writer (and television scriptwriter?).

Daar word je wel stil van

Literally: Then (or there = daar) you (je) become (word) well (unneccessary fillword wel) silent (stil) from (van)

Meaning: From this you surely will get silent.

I used "surely" for "wel", because "wel" is intended to emphasize the statement

Ah. I could't find 'word' from dictionary because the basic word is 'worden'. Silly me. And I thought 'van' would be friend, cos in Swedesh 'vän' = friend.

friend is 'vriend' in Dutch.
and word comes indeed from the verb 'worden'.
Normally it's 'je wordt', but in this case we use inversion, and then we drop the ending 't'.
So it becomes 'word je'.
That's a nasty little grammarrule that every teacher in primaryschool uses to tease pupils...
It's one of those well-known 'dt-fouten' (mistakes on the endings).

What do you mean?

This hit is not valid? You must believe me, I don't cheat. EBT is a game for me, so I don't create hits. I'm almost 40, I have better things to do!!!

I believe you when you say that you don't cheat, Wouter, and i think that's also exactly what philippe meant. I think your hit was moderated by error by somebody, and philippe did have to un-moderate it...

At least that's what i can make up from the post of Philippe...

So i would say, just continue to enjoy EBT.. :D and this forum of course :wink:
