Please investigate user quetzal02 and his notes from Beijing. I find it hard to believe that he has received dozens of and , worth tens of thousands of euros, from money exchange office in Beijing. I'm pretty sure he has been using the same serial number for consecutive serial numbers, that he has entered. Even the comments about how the notes are being, are are the same for most of the notes!! As this is such a ridiculous act, I wonder if he has even ever set his foot on China´s soil.

I've been in Beijing on 30th-31th March and 12th-13th April.
The very first day I had plenty of time to "explore" several foreing exchange offices and I found two in wich they showed me several notes. (ie: the money was not mine, but I could see them.)

I even took a picture of that (as I thought: Ok, this may be hard to believe, but I have to register these notes!! ) However, as it was quite a while ago, I deleted the photo already (now regretting... )

The second time in Beijing (12th-13th April) I went again to that place and they had more €-notes.

Finally, after the whole trip, I registered the notes together (after recovering.)

@JES: I understand what you mean, but based on my long experience on this, I find it extremely difficult to believe in such a golden opportunity. At a foreign exchange office, they would show Euro notes worth of tens of thousands of Euros to an unknown stranger babbling something about a hobby he takes part in? I even find it difficult to believe that an exchange office (/ a couple of offices together) in China would have such an amount of Euros. Maybe some really big bank office in downtown Beijing could have such amount of Euros, but only if one would have pre-ordered them, but not otherwise. Come on, even normal bank offices in Europe very rarely have such money without pre-ordering, let alone in China. Normally banks and exchange offices outside Euro zone have just a handful of Euro notes at thei possession.

I have never been to China, but been changing Euros in USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea outside the Euro zone. In none of those countries such an opportunity would never happen, nor would such amount of notes ever exist in an exchange office or two.

I'm not being any judge here and I have no personal agenda here. I thank you for your comment on the topic, and would be more than happy if those would be real notes seen in Beijing. Unfortunately find it very difficult to believe, but maybe others disagree with me.

Klazu, your experience is only limited to Western countries (Although Japan and South Korea lie in Asia, they are westernized countries). There is no way you can compare China with these countries.

You should understand that China is a cash-based society. Houses are quite often being paid in cash. Even when a new motorway or sky-scraper is being built, the constructor gets paid in cash. In the Western world we can't imagine this anymore. Besides, the Chinese yuan/renminbi is not the only currency often used, but so are the US$ and the €. So it is very well possible that banks and exchange offices have tens of thousands of euros in stock.

Besides, I know of two exchange offices in Brussels. As you can see there, the price of a 1kg gold bar is now over €30.000,=. When you go there and sell a 1kg gold bar, you get paid €30.000,= in cash, no ordering required.

This is a bit far-fetched example, as I wouldn't think that exchange offices in China would be waiting for people coming there without a notice with a 1kg gold bar (!!) with them wanting change it into Euros. Sure, for a office located in Brussels this is not unexpected, as they are inside the Euro zone.

I don't know what kind of exchange offices everyone is meaning here, but I'm talking about Travelex and other foreign currency exchange offices (local banks).

Sure, China is a cash-based country, but so are also South Korea and Germany to large extent (really, they are). However I can't totally rest my case before visiting China, and adding that to my experiences. I really look forward to the exchange offices showing people serial numers of large notes without a doubt.
