I doubt, if it's so much cheaper.

Do you know how much a pair of shoes cost (during this walk your shoes will be destroyed because of the distance  )?

Please read my information regarding public transportation in Vienna below.
Mr Euro wrote:Can I use those tickets as well to get from the airport to the hotel and back or do I need special tickets for that?
The weeklypass ticket is for Vienna only and since the airport is outside, you have to buy another ticket for that. See the FAQ section in my posting below.
Mr Euro wrote:So those S-Bahn tickets are an extra or can I use the weekpass?
They are to be paid separately.

Public Transportation in Vienna

We have a very capable and dense system consisting of buses, trams, light rail and subways.
You can find detailed information on the web site of Wiener Linien, the main operator.

If you are staying for several days in Vienna, probably the best way to move around using public
transportation is the use of a "rover" ticket that lasts for one week (a "weekly transit pass").
It's only 14€ and you can use it with any public transportation inside the boundaries of Vienna.

There are two drawbacks to this:
1.) The ticket is valid from Monday midnight to the following Monday, 9 am of a given week,
___not for one week starting at a given time, i.e. when you buy it or first use it.
2.) You can only buy this kind of ticket on Monday and Tuesday, not any later.

Since most of you will arrive in Vienna on Thursday (or Wednesday earliest), you won't be able
to buy it. However, I can offer to buy a limited number of tickets in advance and sell them
at no extra charge. If you are interested in this, please contact me via private message.

Apart from the weekly transit pass, there's a 72 hour (three day) ticket, a 24 hour (one day) ticket
and standard one-way tickets. You can buy tickets at every subway and train station and in most
buses and trams directly at the driver (albeit a bit more expensive). Tickets have to be validated
with the exception of the weekly transit pass.

Public Transportation from and to Vienna Airport

You can reach the airport from the city (or vice versa) by means of bus and train services
and of course by taxi. Fares are from 3,60 Euro for the one-way ticket using the S-Bahn
up to approximately 30 Euro using a taxi.

By train, using light rail "S-Bahn"
The train station is within the arrival building at Wien-Schwechat airport and the S-Bahn
S7 takes you to downtown (train station "Wien Mitte") with a few stops in 24 minutes.
The fare is 3,60 Euro for a single ticket with no discount for a return ticket.

By train, using fast train "CAT"
The train station is within the arrival building at Wien-Schwechat airport and the fast train
takes you to downtown (train station "Wien Mitte") nonstop in 16 minutes. The fare is 10 Euro
for a single ticket and 18 Euro for a return ticket. There's a rebate if you buy an online ticket.
See => http://www.cityairporttrain.com/langen/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

By bus, using "Vienna Airport Lines"
There are routes from/to Südbahnhof, Westbahnhof, Schwedenplatz (downtown) and several
other destinations in Vienna. The fare is 6 Euro for a single ticket and 11 Euro for a return ticket.
Depending on your destination, rides take between 20 (downtown) and 35 minutes (Westbahnhof).

If there's any remaining questions, don't hesitate to ask them here or use PM to contact me.
Best regards, Franz

Public Transportation from and to Vienna Airport
I want to add some comments to this options:
-STAR- wrote:By train, using light rail "S-Bahn"

S7 takes you to downtown (train station "Wien Mitte") with a few stops in 24 minutes.

See => http://www.viennaairport.com/jart/prj3/ ... 5697462785" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
1) You had to buy the tickets before you entering the train (ticket machines are located one leve above track plattform). The fare is 3,60 (2 zones) for all destinations in Vienna! So if you get off from the train, your ticket is still valid.

2) If you returning to the airport and you are in the posession of a valid ticket for the "Kernzone 100" (= boundaries of Vienna), you have to pay only 1,80!

3) Since the Austrian Railways are involved in the CAT, the signposting for the S-Bahn could be much better than it is. So don't hesitate to follow the blue and most times small "S-Bahn"-signs. Sometimes trains are going through Vienna and so the text on the information shows only "Laa an der Thaya" or "Wolkersdorf". You can take all this trains except trains to "WOLFSTHAL" (this is definitly the wrong direction!)

4) Trains are leaving the airport at the following times:
xx:18 and xx:41 where xx means a hour between 9am to 10pm!
There are also some trains before 9am, but the schedule has an other frequency. The first train leaves the airport at 05:48, the last train leaves at 23:18, before and after this time you have to take the CAT or the bus!
-STAR- wrote:By train, using fast train "CAT"
By bus, using "Vienna Airport Lines"
In both cases your ticket is not valid for a transfer to a destination in Vienna. So you have to buy an extra ticket when arriving with CAT or bus at the end terminal in Vienna.

-STAR- wrote:Public Transportation in Vienna
If you are a party of two peoples, who are travelling together, another option for you could be the The 8-day Climate Ticket! Simply punch one strip for each person in the group for one day (not 24 hours!).

Please be aware that we are using the public transit system for transportation between some points of the agenda (eg. on Thursday from Nationalbank to Wieden-Bräu, Friday after arriving from Bratislava to the giant ferry wheel and after that to the Heurigen, also for some tours on Saturday you will need a ticket). Since driving and parking with a car in Vienna is not really recommended (there is a short-term parking zone for the districts 1-9 from 9am-10pm!), you also must take care about transportations to and from the meeting points! So it could save you a lot of money to use a Rover/Ranger-ticket instead of single tickets!

Now I know what the phrase "spoiled for choice" really means. Now, how many possibilities are there in total?
(and moderators, please feel free to delete my comment if you feel like it; it really doesn't add any value to this discussion)
