1) Worringly there are people thick enough to believe the Sun and Bild and other such papers. There are those who can see past it though, but still read it.
2) It wouldn't take the Euro to make the health system collapse. It can do it all by itself, thank you very much. We say that the National Health Service should be reported to Trading Standards. All people here can say is that the NHS is National, so at least it gets one out of the 3 right.

all countries have at least one of this "things", in portugal we have the weekly Tal&Qual that could be translated to something like: just like it is.. a few weeks ago their first page was, in enormous title, "HOW MUCH COST A F***?"matt.berlin wrote:1) Worringly there are people thick enough to believe the Sun and Bild and other such papers. We have such kind of press in Italy as well, usually weekly magazines.
They can be extremely useful when you have no more toilet paper

let me just tell you another story of "Tal&Qual" that's really fantastic, a few years ago, in the beginings of internet, our minister of culture (of those times) created a web site to promote internet (terravista.pt), so that anyone could have a webpage.. of course a few porn pages appeared.. (sex makes the world to roll), first page of "Tal&Qual": THIS MINISTER PAYS GAY PORN ON THE INTERNET" - with the picture of the minister looking to pictures of naked men...pinguino79 wrote:We have such kind of press in Italy as well, usually weekly magazines.

PS: of corse I never buy this paper, just read the first page, because it's really funny sometimes, the problem is that a few people actualy believe in this kind of sh**...

England still sees itsself as the worldpower they once were.
But every Englishman/woman realizes that eventualy Bratain will have to introduce the Euro.
If not: they'll be an 3rd world country within Europe!!
BTW, I've heard that you can pay with Euros in London..............

I don't think Britain will be a third world country within Europe. I know it would be better of in the Euro, but it can survive outside of it. There are lots of people in this country though who think we would be worse off in the Euro, just as there were in other countries. The difference is, we are being given the choice.
You can pay with Euros at certain places around Britain, but of course the exchange rate isn't very good and you will always be given your change in pounds. There were enthusiasts at the beginning of the year who tested all the opportunities out .. going to the bureau de change and then paying for things in the UK with the new currency!

Joining the Euro or not will have an impact on the countries economy and welfare. That’s something that can not be denied. But the problem is it is unknown if it will have a positive or a negative effect.
It all really depends on how the economy within the Eurozone evolves compared to the economy outside of the zone. But joining the Euro is joining something more stable while not joining is taking more risks (meaning a country can win by not joining, but can also lose big time).

I certainly wouldn't live in Norway.BossaNova wrote: I disagree, look to Norway, they're out of thE euro and the EU, and according to UN it's the best place on earth to live!
I think the Euro can only have a positive effect economically and politically. However, it will take some convincing to get others to share this view.

The case of UK is peculiar, as it already has a strong and stable economy.matt.berlin wrote:I think the Euro can only have a positive effect economically and politically. However, it will take some convincing to get others to share this view.
BTW, next year the governement will take the economical tests to see if the introduction of the euro will actually have positive effects; maybe people will be convinced by the scientific proof
