Although I remembered the reason for this quite well, I also agree with Venga that the Netherlands Antilles is an independent country.
Aruba however has a special status in the kingdom but I think that should also be kept under Netherlands Antilles.
The overseas countries are nothing like provinces in the Netherlands. They have their own government, flag, laws etc.
They don't resemble French territories in any way. Those French are overseas territories, but are still a part of France.

They are not considered as part of the EU. They don't even use the euro.BaliBennie wrote: Aruba however has a special status in the kingdom but I think that should also be kept under Netherlands Antilles.

If that is the reason not to put the Netherlands Antilles into the list, then takeOlivier wrote:They are not considered as part of the EU. I disagree. There's the Netherlands, Netherlands Antilles and Aruba.BaliBennie wrote:I also agree with Venga that the Netherlands Antilles is an independent country. Aruba however has a special status in the kingdom but I think that should also be kept under Netherlands Antilles.
You can get euros everywhere. It would be nice to enter them with the right country.Olivier wrote:They are not considered as part of the EU. They don't even use the euro.

Considering that the "Dutch Government is responsible for defense and foreign affairs" for all of them, I don't think they're eligible for a country status in EBT. My reference is Wikipedia's list of countries.Venga wrote:I disagree. There's the Netherlands, Netherlands Antilles and Aruba.
Dunno, perhaps every Dutch website does thatVenga wrote:No main reason to convince anyone, but every website where you have to select a country has also these two in it's list. So eh, EBT knows better??
We also don't list England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland even though they have their own flags. The same goes to Finnish island group Ahvenanmaa (Åland) which also has its own flag and is pretty much autonomous. I'm sure there are lots of similar examples.

In the Netherlands each province and each province capital have their own flag (link) but except for those of Amsterdam (Dutch capital) and Friesland (a province, called a foreign nation by some) they are almost completely unknown.avij wrote:We also don't list England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland even though they have their own flags.
The Netherlands, the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba are, as far as I understand it, 3 countries which together form the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Their status, compared to Britain, is a bit like the various countries of the Commonwealth.
But since it's the location of the bill that counts instead of the country that location is in, I wouldn't bother to much about this issue.

It's not about "knowing" it, it's a matter of definition. If some other country manages the foreign affairs of some other country, that country isn't really independent, is it?Ralf wrote:I think all dutch people know it![]()

The key words here are: was -- we're living in present time -- and many years ago -- more than 50 years ago if I'm not mistaken.Ralf wrote:Indonesia was also a part of The Netherlands many years ago but they are also in the list.
