I'm just back in Belgium from the dusty, sun-beaten Ouahigouya, Burkina Faso.
I entered my notes and used City Manager to add the corresponding dot, but it appears in neighbouring country Niger.
Can someone sort this out? I applied the correct coordinates(, I think).

EDIT: Problem solved by myself; it was -2 degrees, not +2 degrees.
Nice new dot on the world map though!

Should Sudan not be split in two, now that South Sudan is independent?
Not that I'm planning to go there, but ...

it has in fact already been split, but no-one has entered notes from there so South Sudan doesn't yet show up in the rankings

It does show up in the drop down list of my note entering form so the website is indeed aware of South Sudan.

That leaves one question open: If you ever find yourself there, how do you get Euronotes there? That is, without exchanging notes with other people of your group or other forms of cheating?

Oops.. This is going off-topic....

I wonder if someone could explain what is the correct way to decide whether a place is a "city"

In my own area of the County of Greater Manchester notes from small places like Royton, part of Oldham District have been entered.

I have followed this by entering a note in the village of Dobcross also in the Oldham District but notice that recently user Le Hibou has entered notes from the near by village of Greenfield which also has an Oldham post code OL but has entered then has having been received at Manchester.

When in Belgium a note I collected at Gare de Midi was automatically placed in Saint Gilles rather than Bruxelles, yet notes from all overs Berlin are placed in Berlin

Is there a consistant approach between countries?

Thank you

So do I, sometimes.

I would be as precise as possible, without going into the ridiculous (such as entering street names in the city field). I would certainly use Dobcross and Greenfield in this case.

Saint Gilles is a separate municipality from Brussels, both are located in the Brussels Capital Region. Berlin is just one municipality (and a state).

No. Sometimes there is a consistent approach in a country.
My NIG stats have finally disappeared. My EBTST stats are still available.

There is no consistent approach between countries. There is however a consistent approach within each country.

i.e. every country has made it's own decisions on what divisions are used. At the moment a country can have two administrative layers between country level and the city profiles. In :flag-nl: The Netherlands and :flag-be: Belgium these two layers are provinces and municipalities. In :flag-fr: France these two layers are regions and arrondissements, and in :flag-de: Germany these layers are states (Bundesländer) and districts (Kreise). :flag-de: Germany has even got the habit to only allow municipalities as city-levels. So every town or village is redirected to it's municipality.

You can see there are quite big differences in only these countries. Other countries might have even other systems. I am not aware of the divisions of :flag-uk: England/UK in EBT.

As far as I know it's best not to use neighborhoods or suburbs of large cities to create city profiles from unless these neighborhoods/suburbs have some kind of official status. The latter is the case in :flag-be: Brussels and :flag-be: Antwerp.

Thank you, googlejaps and R/J that explains why there are the differences between countries

In English (Scotland Wales and Northern Ireland all differ) the Country is divided up into Counties. The Counties are shown on EBT.

The Counties are in turn divided into districts. In rural areas the districts can contain many towns and villages. Even in Greater Manchester a district like Bolton will incorporate places that have name signs and used to have a seperate identity in local government. The example that gave rise to my querry Dobcross is a rural village some 10 k from the centre of the district Oldham. It seemed to me it was a seperate place

Strangely London which is a County divided into Boroughs ( similar to the districts of Greater Manchester ) is for EBT purposes treated as 1 place except for the City of London. The City was a seperate " city " hundreds of years ago when the rest of what is now London was part of Middlesex. Middlesex has long been abolished and the "City of London " is really now anorther London borough, although it has few residents and a special archaic electoral system

So the 'London city county' has to be deleted because it isn't a county at all.
The subdivided city profile London City should be merged with that London profile, right?

According to wikipedia, the City of London has a special status :

"Because the City of London has a Commission of Lieutenancy rather than a single Lord Lieutenant, it is treated as a county for some but not all purposes of the Lieutenancy Act (Schedule 1 paragraph 4)"

Well, the City of London certainly is different from every other local authority in England. It has an odd electoral system, not one man one vote, it has its own police , its own Lord Mayor etc, and is very different from the other 32 London borough as it retains many powers which the other boroughs have transferred to the Greater London Authority which is the current replacement for the Greater London Council that in turn was the replacement for London County Council.

But I would not consider the city as a "County" any more than say the "City of Westminster".

Any way the test seems to be seperate identifiable places rather than counties , it seems to me that London should either be broken down to its seperate boroughs including ther City of London, rather like Brussels, or alternatively all of it treated as one place like Berlin

But as I have only collected 225 notes my personal views can not carry a great deal of weight......
