60%?! Can you remember where you have heard/read that? In the time of
the Dutch referendum about the European Constitution I heard only 12% of
the legislation is enforced by Europe. The person who investigated it was
somebody who graduated in National (Dutch) and European Law, so I consi-
der him to be quite reliable.

You forget that this also holds for other countries. And there are also Dutch
people involved in making new EU regulation, so we Dutchies have influence
as well.

I won't vote for a European president as well, but that's because I am
against so much democracy. Many people are not capable of voting, be-
cause they don't think by ratio, but by emotion. There is a chance that
Europe ends up with an idiot (like Bush, Ahmadinejad, Mugabe, Fujimori,
Chavez, or even worse...).
The time isn't right for a European monarchy, as long as we have still indi-
vidual countries in Europe, instead of the United States of Europe (which
country should the new king/queen be from?).
In my opinion the system should be like this: people elect their govern-
ments, the governments elect a commission of wise men (just like they
elect the Eurpoean Commission), and the commission of wise men elect a
president.

Since we are not a very big country we can't do without Europe. On our
own we don't have anything to say in the world at all, and nor do the other
European countries. But together we have! That's why I want Europe to have
its own currency, military and constitution, and I hope that one day Europe
becomes the United States of Europe!

So you think it is of no advantage that, when travelling in the eurozone, you
are able to pay with the same money that you pay with at home? You don't
have to pay exchange fees anymore if you want to exchange currencies,
and that can save you tens of euros! And since Holland is a trading country
Dutch trading companies make more profit, so they can attract more
employees, and they will also pay more taxes, so it is better for the Dutch
economy.
By now I am completely used to the euro: I even feel like I am at home in
the eurozone! When I travelled with bhoeyb to EBTM05 in Helsinki we drove
through Denmark and Sweden, and I didn't feel comfy there, but when we
reached Åland I felt like I was back home, despite the fact that Åland looks
very Martian with its red rocks!
giberski wrote:I'm Dutch, I will stay Dutch and will never be an European. (Sorry if I offend someone.)
Technically you are wrong: since Holland lies in Europe you are European
as well, whether you want it or not!
I am both Dutch and European as well, but right now I feel more European
than Dutch, because I am a bit ashamed of those short-sighted Dutchies
who don't look further than their own polder...

(Sorry if I offended some-
one too!
