brewerhki wrote:Ok, as we have leave bit early and must skip sunday program. We'd really like to visit westest corner of continental Europe, Cabo da Roca. So, is there nice public transportation to there and back, if we want to visit there before sunday? And also want to go around the bay (Montijo, Vila Franca de Xira, etc), if public transportation runs smoothly? Thanks for the information and sorry to disrupt with our special request.
You can go to Cabo da Roca on your own any time by bus. There's one every hour from either Cascais or Sintra, so first you have to go to Sintra or Cascais (by train). All in all, it will take you at least over 2 hours just to get there without spending any time visiting Cascais or Sintra. And don't forget more than two hours to get back to Lisbon. Here's a route calculation.

As to getting around the estuary, there's no good transportation to do a tour, as far as I know, but then again it wouldn't be worth it either. There are, however, very interesting spots, and maybe you can visit one of them. I would recommend taking a boat to Seixal, which is close and nice enough to get a sense of how the left bank is. The boat schedule is irregular, every 2 hours off-peak or every 20 minutes at peak hours (schedule here). Another idea would be to go to Cacilhas and have lunch there. There are plenty of good and not expensive restaurants at Cacilhas. Although Cacilhas' riverbank is not nice as Seixal's, there's much more boats taking you there (schedule).

Notice that in all schedules, "Dias úteis" means "Monday to Friday" and "Sábados" means "Saturdays".

Does anybody know what (if any) limitations there are to changing bills at the Banco de Portugal? I've only been able to find the form that needs to be filled out. Thanks.

If you mean changing euro banknotes for other euro banknotes, there's no limitations. You should bring your ID and you need to be there when they're open (that's Monday-Friday only, 8h30-15h00).

Notice that the Cash offices' entrance is not the same as Banco de Portugal's main entrance. The Cash offices are at Rua do Ouro, 27 (the street's official name is Rua Áurea but it is known by everybody as Rua do Ouro). Map here: http://goo.gl/maps/pr1d9

When I phoned them, I specifically asked about foreigners travelling to Portugal and they told me an ID would be enough. It should be, in fact, but you never know what moron will be behind the counter on a specific day... :?

Is it with all banks, or only at the National Bank?

I hope you can change at other banks, because if you change at the National Bank, you have a great chance to get "uninteresting meetinghits", which all should be moderated (because it's against the rules of meetings).

As far as I know, at other banks you will be more dependent on who's behind the counter. Most do not have (or at least claim not to have) banknotes of big denominations. That might include :note-50: and up. On the other hand it shouldn't be too hard to find some bank or exchange bureau clerk willing to give you :note-5: and :note-10: , once they check your banknotes for counterfeit.

Schedules would be nice too. We have plans to visit bit around twice, but if meeting schedule doesn't fit on those, maybe we skip either of our trips (we only have time friday and saturday to be around Lisboa).

I'm working on addresses, menus, prices and schedules. A lot more work than I thought and a lot later than you expected. We'll post everything until Sunday.

There's some changes to the initial plan but mostly to the better (and longer). The meeting will start officially Friday lunch at a restaurant with walls covered in banknotes of all the world.

in Cabo da Roca I believe to take a picture like this won't be possible
