Since I work in tourism, from April/May through the end of September, I track tons of :note-100: notes. That's because many non-European guests —especially from Switzerland and the Czech Republic — exchange their currency before arriving in Italy. In Winter, it’s a bit less common because many shops and hotels are closed. Here, paying with :note-100: notes is still OK, but I notice that credit cards are increasingly taking over.

Do you need to repair that? Just put some adhesive tape (teippi) over it.

The bank clerks also repair such euronotes. They use the brand "Scotch Magic Tape".

In The Netherlands there are now some ATM's that have :note-100: Possibly those ATM's are only in Geldmaat Stores. It's visible on every ATM's screen which denominations are in it before you enter your card.

This website shows a map where you can filter on Location Type "Geldmaat Store" (or Facility Type 5-euro notes), unfortunately there is no filter for 100-euro notes (yet): https://www.geldmaat.nl/en/need-help/locator/ The "Now open" filter can be unchecked if needed.

Hello everybody!

Interesting topic.... Some perspective from Finland: So as some of you know Finland is nowadays a cash hostile country. But still what comes to large notes ( :note-100: and :note-200: ) I think the situation in Finland is something between the Central-European "cash heaven" countries (Germany, Austria etc) and Southern-European kind of cash friendly but somehow large note hatefull countries (like Italy apparently). And why? Because no matter what you are still able to use :note-100: and :note-200: notes at any hypermarkets or Supermarkets without any problems. Even in smaller grocerie shops :note-100: should be good unless you are going there in the morning. But what comes to availability, you are not able to get larger notes than :note-50: from ATM. So it means that :note-100: and :note-200: notes you have to get from banks. And here it means you have to be a customer. Also :note-100: should be quite easy to get from info desk of hypermarket chane called Prisma but you have to withdraw them via your S-Pankki (bank branch in Finland) card. I have noticed that :note-200: are only available from real banks. Just got 2× :note-200: and 8× :note-100: from my own bank. All Europe series. Today I also noticed that there was an old serie :note-100: note inside the cash register in hypermarket. But it was in the situation when they change shifts and the worker took the register with her...

Greetings from Helsinki, Finland

It is best not to attempt any repairs, as in some cases this can make the situation worse. If you absolutely must do so, use only special adhesive tape made of non-perishable material.

In Italy even simply exchanging notes for smaller denominations is quite complicated: for examle, the Bank of Italy requires a form to be filled out, and bank staff often actively discourage the transaction. I asked a branch manager about this, and he explained that they are concerned about money laundering or similar crimes. I am not sure how much of this is real and how much is an exaggeration, but I believe the same deep-seated fear applies to the attitude for notes larger than 50.

Thanks for explaining this more! In Finland banks are also very worried about money laundering even it has never been an issue here. Partly because Finland is a fully digitalized society. (Unfortunatly for us cash users). But here you cant even do an exhange at banks! So you can only withdraw money from your account or deposit it. But when I go to withdraw money to my own bank I can get any notes from my account if I want. So they only might just ask where thhis money is for but when I answer "for my savings" or "for use" (strange in todays Finland  ) they just answer ok!. Last time 2× :note-200: wasn't causing any questions.

Moving away from cash is a global trend, but in my opinion it is deeply wrong and even dangerous.

Update: it's a temporary test until November in 46 out of the 47 Geldmaat shops in :flag-nl: There is 1 ATM in those shops that has :note-100: (denominations are shown on the screen) and the :note-100: are only available if you choose the option to select which bills you want to receive.
