Now the votes are made and they are being counted. Our telephone lines were mainly busy. I gave my votes to Belarus and Ukraine. For France and Serbia I did not get through. (Great Serbian song but terribly unsympathic singer)

About the Eurovision Song Contest I think that the voting system must be changed...
In the 2007 contest, I heard the serbian music and I like it, but I think that others could win. Having at least 5 neighbors (Slovenia, Croatia, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro) helped a lot...
Althought that, maybe it could be a good thing to Belgrade and Serbia to develop the tourism and to show to the world that they are no longer a ditatorial country (in 2008).

Now that I'm seeing the Semi-Final results:

Portugal in 11th (ouch! :x )

well we're not exactly neighbouring serbia :P but yeah, i know what you mean... so many people here enjoy the balkan tunes :?

something should really be done with the voting system, maybe 50% votes from jury? (though i still trust the population more than just a few random people "with a good taste")
but i think the immigrants are a bigger problem than 'neighbour voting' (which btw. is popular all around the europe) - it's so sad to watch how every year there's more countries that give 12pts to a turkish below-average song

I incidentally zapped into the channel when the voting was announced, so my first and only contact with this ESC was the summary when something like ten seconds of each performance is repeated.

I'm impressed that I guessed correctly from this short summary that Ukraine would end up in the top 3. This is not to be understood in the sense that I found the Ukrainian, erm, contribution itself particularly impressive.

Did you notice that they actually sang "I want to see: Russia goodbye" in one part? :)
Originally the song was called Rasha Tumbai, but "because people heard it as 'Russia goodbye'", it was changed to Lasha Tumbai between the Semifinal and Final. They claimed that Lasha Tumbai is Mongolian for whipped cream, which apparently is not true.

However, in the final, after first saying "I want to see: lasha tumbai" for two times, in the third time they very clearly said "Russia goodbye".

A very interesting way of doing politics :)

8O 8O 8O

Portugal almost got in the final??? 8O

I'm glad they didn't, that song is truly an abomination, how could anyone vote in that song.

did you know that Ireland probably only got points at all because the Albanian televote failed and the points came from a jury?
that was a terrible presentation, the singer acted like she was drunk and she invented a new melody for the song

I also find it funny how she pronounces some words
"And from Lisadell to Latvia" -> "And from Lisadell to Atvia"
"We don't need no party, just a party band" -> "We don't need no harty, just a party band" :?:
I think this could happen because she uses Irish grammar to English words, in Irish language the first consonant of a word can change depending on the word that comes before :!:

no, the ESC is in no way political. In no way. It's about people voting for songs they already know. That's called cultural, not political.

The whole band looked like they were drunk or in terrible hang over. Well, friend of mine was working as a volunteer at ESC and her job was to quide irish delecation around. She told me that they were good drinking company...
