Editable comments

Post by lmviterbo »

Here's something that seems not too difficult to implement and could be a two or three problem-solver:

A second comment box. The main comment would be permanent as it is now, the second one would be editable.

This way, I would have a way to register self-hits, where I spent my note after registering it, why an eventual hit was considered uninteresting, or whatever I found relevant.

Edit: typo

I can imagine number 2 giving some problems in the privacy area. I.e. all cities you entered notes are mentioned there.

I like number 4 very much. The other 2 would be nice but should in my list appear with a lower priority.

Not so difficult ; you could decide if fellow EBT'ers can see these "privacy items" yes or no.. by clicking it into a sort of systme from no to yes or yes to now... same as f.i. e-mail address and web-site address

This idea has some problems which have been talked about earlier. Sorry for being too lazy to explain..

I found the older discussion and can understand this privacy policy a bit more , still...
The discussion was in May 2003 , now it is almost 2005... and a lot has changed.. So many more people are at EBT..
And EBT has developped fabulous...
I'm always openminded ; also on this item...
Curious how many people would be against showing more info regarding your own statistics..

I think this is the one:

Thread is a dutch one, but in the second post Avij has a link with a similar English thread.

Still.. this is a discussion from May 2003... We're almost in 2005 ; Opinions are still the same in this very changed EBT ??

I think so. You're living in the Netherlands / Europe too and privacy issues where never so actual as in these years, so please be careful...

I feel a bit like suggesting a new law in the government...
OK ; let's skip Item 2 for a while... you'll never know what comes up out of EBT's big hat..

Item 1/3/4 ; anyone more comment ??

Could we also see the comments in the Stats/Notes lists? That would be nice to add a column between the city and the country, or at the right of the countries column...
The comments give a story to the bills.

I understand it's not possible for the hits page, because there are several comments, but let's try for the "single" hit.

About the editable comment field, why not! I could add the place where I have spent my notes. :-)

FotoVideoStore wrote:1) After you have entered a note , you get the screen with the info of the notes and a piece of tekst (help tekst).
Perhaps , we could used this empty text to encourage a little more..
Like :
Thank you for entering your notes at EBT.. At this moment , it takes ... notes on average to receive a hit... This number is going down rapidly , so don't hesitate to come back soon and enter more notes !!
YES Excellent idea, perfect text.
FotoVideoStore wrote:3) At this moment , one can see 10 pages with new users... I think it would be interesting to see (in one view) how many notes these new users have entered so far.. so an extra column would have to be at these pages
NO New users are registering at such a pace now that I believe you'd see only very small numbers and zeros. Like now: the first 30 have only up to 11 notes, and only 1/5 of them have more than 5 notes.
FotoVideoStore wrote:4) If you click the town of a user , you'll see all users from your town. I think it would be nice here also to see in one view how many notes they have entered.
YES At the moment that is only possible for our referrals.

About referrals, who agree with this : create a ranking of users' referers ?

You got a point , but they can also see on the right there are 40.000 users and users with over 100.000 notes..

One of the things I'd like to see (which should be very easy to implement) are thousand-seperators for all values.

So instead of i.e. "Notes .: 4689235" it should be formatted like "Notes .: 4,689,235" (the same goes for all other values), which'd make these values a lot easier to read.

Changing that should be a matter of minutes since PHP offers a nice function which does exactly that (number_format).
