Today I've found a 10€ banknote :note-10: with the stripe hologram with a blank area instead a diamond shape background. The error is the same TheUndertaker showed few days ago.

I can't agree absolutely. It is exactly the same thing: the "filling" pattern around the hologram is missing, which leaves the white area completely white. This makes it look wider than standard, and there's white paper on both sides of the hologram, giving the sensation of "emptyness".

The only different look I can see is a teen against a fiver.

13-to-19?

I have a G004/V

😁😁😁😁

(OK, this is not the point, I know, but I'm father to two teenagers, so I find it fun writing "teen" instead of teener...)

🤷

There are some small variations in the short codes. In addition to the size of the lettering (smaller or larger: the difference is very evident, for example, between S and Z) today I found a N018E2 where "E2" is a bit spaced from "N018".

The only explanation that makes sense, is that the ink has been removed in terms of manipulation.
The holographic foil is overprinted, and ink adheres to foil much worse than paper, so it could be abraded with chemicals or other tricks. This might be the result.
edit: I have just tried myself with acetone... works and leads to a similar result. didnt work so good with a 10, much better with a 5 and worked super effective for a 20. The ink can simply be rubbed off... dont try it at home and dont damage banknotes!

(In the first post I forgot to specify that it was a :note-5: )

Accepting this theory, it must be explained why (excluding only the spacing), E2 and the rest of the code are perfectly identical to the Austrian others in terms of characters printing, size and centering. Those who changed the writing should have had very advanced equipment available to rewrite E2 with spacing. In my opinion a small print defect is more realistic.
However, a N018E4 with the same characteristic was tracked.

I don't know whether you know it already:
There won't be any Irish bills with Lagarde's signature :( as Central Bank of Ireland stopped printing banknotes at its printing works in Sandyford near Dublin already last year:
https://www.rte.ie/news/business/2019/0 ... rintworks/

So, with the bills from Ireland (T) the same will happen as with bills from Netherlands (P), Belgium (Z) or Munich (X): They will die out, just as Finnish or British bills of the first series did.

This means the Lagarde :note-5: E001/EC could be either from the Belgian or the Irish order.

I have also noticed the same with Spanish :note-5: and :note-10: . Not very often, but sometimes. Probably some mistakes on the quality.
