This is normal, since the last digit is a control number and is computed from the rest of the serial.

I know, I'm not talking about the last digit. I mean that only the numeral part runs consecutively, while the second letter is just attached to it, it's not part of running order.

An imaginary sequence of serials would be e.g. a001 a002 ... a997 a998 a999 b001 b002 ... etc. But at least in case of Italian notes it's something like this: a001 a002 a003 d004 d005 d006 d007 c008 c009 c010 ...

Found the first non-Italian Europa tenner today. Austrian of course, N002/NA.

On another note, it appears that some serial numbers don't run as expected, from e.g. SA0-SA9 and then SB0 etc. instead I got such serials from consecutive withdrawals where xxx and yyy are identical:

Because for S and U-notes, the first character and the first digit of the serialnumbers encode the positioninfo. See here.

So if xxxxx and yyyyy are equal, the following notes are from the same printing sheet, but from different positions:
S[B4]0xxxxx00c - D5
S[D7]0yyyyy00c - G3

First non-Greek 2014 here today, and that was from the only other country with "exclusive" 2014 so far: Ireland. Some guy who had just arrived from Dublin was looking for his hotel and bought stuff from my shop with it. So, the first "T" so far, the first non-Y for us over here.

Correct me if I am wrong, but with the new series notes serial numbers, won't we eventually get fewer available serial combinations? What I mean is, with the second serial digit having been replaced by a letter ranging between A and F, the available combinations dropped from 10 (if it were a number/digit) to only 6 (A,B,C,D,E,F) , (Y0, Y1, Y2...Y9 eventually became YA, YB..YF)- won't that lead to serials possibly running out at some point after some years, assuming that no letters after G will be assigned as second serials, especially for the low denominations? ( )

I would not assume that. Small denominations are more largely printed. If first printing numbers are high enough, for sure they'll use letters higher than G. France has issued G serials, and is one of the larger printers. Why should they not print H, (I), J, K or L bills, to say something, although they have now two indicators (U & E)?

New 10 are still infrequent in Italy: so far I have found five only.

I just realised today that my local post office is both releasing new 10€ notes and very old ones kept as reserve: today I had a brand new Duisenberg, but no Europa.
...which makes me kind of sad.

I just realised today that my local post office is both releasing new 10€ notes and very old ones kept as reserve: today I had a brand new Duisenberg, but no Europa.
...which makes me kind of sad.
