There are various experiments of this kind around Europe (some in the past were even linked to bizarre extremist political-economic theories) but they have a local function and cannot spread very far.

I've read about similar initiatives over the years. Just as an example, the 'Grama' was introduced in Santa Coloma de Gramenet (Barcelona) in 2022 as part of the “Gramamoneda” project. The main rationale behind the initiative being to favour local consumption by keeping money circulating at a local level as a means to support local commerce (local financial ecosystem) while instilling, at the same time, a sense of community and local identity (community building).
