metric prefixes for expressing multiples of euro
When the Euro was being designed, thought should have gone into using the metric prefixes in denoting large and small amounts. This would have made the Euro more universal. Sine the metric prefix symbols transsend all languages, every one would understand common symbols.
Any comments?
For example:
Unit name: Symbol: meaning:
Euro €
millieuro m€ 0.001 €
centieuro c€ 0.01 €
decieuro d€ 0.1 €
dekaeuro da€ 10 €
hectoeuro h€ 100 €
kiloeuro k€ 1000 €
megaeuro M€ 1 000 000 €
gigaeuro G€ 1 000 000 000 €
teraeuro T€ 1 000 000 000 000 €
petaeuro P€ 1 000 000 000 000 000 €
exaeuro E€ 1 000 000 000 000 000 000 €
zettaeuro Z€ 1 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 €
yotta Y€ 1 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 €

Hmm I don't really get it. Aren't the numerals we use even more international? Besides, if you use your notation it can get quite akward.
Like: "that's 1K€ , 4h€, 2da€ , 4€ 9d€ and 5c€". Or something like that.

Wrong! That's not how it works.
You don't say something is 23 km, 5 hm, 2 dam and 4 m distant when you mean 23.524 (or 23,524) km. The rules of SI forbid it.
The same would be true with the Euro. What you wrote would be properly written as: 1.42495 k€.
And as for for the term "cent", that is fine in speech, just as kilogram is often called "kilo", but it should always be written as centieuro (c€). Eg. I have a 20 c€ coin in my hand.

Maybe we could convince the ECB of issuing new banknotes as follows:
Old: 10 euro, new: 1 da€
Old: 100 euro, new: 1 h€
(But maybe it's not very user-friendly
