Enough?....dangerous?
Why is that? If everyone in the World would use the same language there would be more understanding and probably fewer conflicts!

I'm sure that the Académie française would be very pleased with a single world language... as long as it was French.

I think our diversity in languages is our strength. And different languages allow different types of thinking .. there are always concepts that only work in a particular language and not others. That makes things more interesting .... and if we decide to go all Darwinist, our diversity actually makes us more capable of surviving.

thanks for looking at my site. Isn't it a well done, informative alternative? You can even correct typing errors of inserted notes :-)

I did (if you are referring to http://www.contagions.com/europanto/europanto.html). And also some intresting links on the site.
EuroBillTracker wrote: It says the language is copyrighted...
I didn’t find this anywhere on the Europanto site itself. But it looks as if it’s a trademark. Anyway if you want to put Europanto on EBT and label it as such the best thing to do is ask Diego Marani for his approval first.
When I asked Diego Marani for permission to translate my site into Europanto, he wrote that he had a copyright to "Europanto" which is his invention. He also said that Europanto is not a language, but a provocation. Certainly, it is not a joke in sense :-)
matt.berlin wrote: Well, according to its inventor .. it's not supposed to be a language of its own like Esperanto ... it's just a way of in the end, creating a language with English as it's base, for Europe.

That therefore implies our languages should merge, he argues they are already and that Europanto is simply speeding up that process. However, I think many Europeans would agree that we don't need a single language ... in fact, we don't want one.
Did you read that in the newspaper? I doubt that Mr Marani said he wanted to create a language with English as it's base, for speeding up the process of merging into one single language. BTW, Europanto doesn't necessarily have English as a base. The 'base' of Europanto depends on the speaker and her language background. If I would talk Europanto, I would use a mix of German, English, Japanese, some Chinese (adding to the confusion and thought provoking :-), maybe tiny bits of French or Italian, but certainly no Dutch, Spanish, Polish, Russian ...

Look at my site, the citing of the URL of which is prohibited by ETB-ettiquete :-)
emmem wrote: Even if Europanto was widely used once of a sudden, I think it won’t make national languages disappear. They will have their influence on each other, yes, but they won’t replace them.
There is no fear - and no intention - of that!

Have you been inside the building? Do you think in a building in Germany - rented by whomsoever - there are no German signs, message boards, instructions on how to behave in case of fire, list of nearby hospitals and doctors, whatever?

Hi EBTrackers!
This page has other infos on Europanto (my intention was to surprise you, but our friendly competitor Thomas came before me  ).

http://www.fotw.net/flags/lingplan.html

For the lazy ones, this is the excerpt regarding Europanto:
Europanto
is not really a serious project of an international planned language (but then again, neither was Klingon!), rather a joke started by a Italian EU-translator making fun of the Euro-babylon at Brussels HQ, but it did became highly popular (as such). It may evolve as a half planned, serious pidgin, maybe into something more stable — who knows? As far as it goes any current symbol for Europanto would be some humourous version of the E.U. flag.
Be warned, I don't know how old are those infos.

Hello everyone,
I'm the guy who translated Eurotracer into Europanto.
Europanto is a funny mixture of several Western European languages. You can change the contents to create a new dialect. In a conversation between a Swede, a Frenchman and a Bulgarian, for example, you could mix those three languages and add some English or Spanish you know...
Someone already mentioned the official Europanto web site http://europanto.contagions.com/europanto.html.
The "language" is not a substitute for Esperanto or any other universal language. It's just some fun for all Europeans - written by an Italian EU translator in Brussels as a mixture of French, Spanish, Italian, German, Dutch, Latin and English.
Hey, if it's not too much, and if I have the time, I might be able to translate EBT into Europanto. And to make Thomas Hagemann (Mister Eurotracer) less upset, register your bills at both sites.

Thanks for this information. :)

Well, when taking the posts into this topic into account, I must say the provocation is a success. But nevertheless I must say I find Europanto a funny thing. I’m not feeling provoked at all.

Well if you look a the grammar page http://www.contagions.com/europanto/gram.en.html you can read
Diego Marani wrote: ...The structure is essentially English, but the words are borrowed from other languages and, if necessary, transformed to make them easier to understand...
I think that's where the assumption comes from that Europanto is based on English. :)
Saaropean wrote: ...The "language" is not a substitute for Esperanto or any other universal language. It's just some fun for all Europeans...
and since Eurobilltracking is about fun, I think translating EBT into Europanto will add some Fun-ctionality to the site :)

Awfully lot of writng about europanto going on  . It's a funny idea, though, but has everybody forgotten about latin, a language that has really existed and from which most European languages arise :?: Wouldn't that also be at least worth mentioning? When will we see EBT in latin? Latin is still (rather) widely known by people around the world. So, why to try to create an artificial language or "language" as there already is a universal european language? :?:
