A liter of gaz (95) (benzin)

Post by Olivier »

Hi everyone!

I went to buy some gaz (benzin, fuel?) for my car yesterday... The liter of SP 95 is 1 euro !! I wonder how much costs a liter in your countries?

I know that it's very cheap in Luxembourg...

DVD prices

Post by pinguino79 »

Italy: 1.08 €!
But each company has its own price since early 90s (before that date, the prices were fixed by the governement).
Prices comparison is another interesting topic, isn't it? :)
So I ask: how much do you pay a DVD? I payed 20.99 € for "Clockwork orange" (and a friend of mine told me he payed for the same movie 14.00 € in Austria).

In the Netherlands we have "het kwartje (1/4 gulden) van Kok", this is EUR 0,11 we have to pay extra (because of our minister president Wim Kok). I think the price of gaz is about EUR 1,15, but I'm not really sure. Maybe someone else from the Netherlands knows the price exactly.

A few years ago I was in the USA where, if I remember correctly (but I can be terribly wrong ;-) ), the price of a gallon (3,785 liter) was somwhere around $1! So roughly around 30 eurocent/liter!

Most DVDs are 20E or more :( . I buy DVDs only when they are 15E or less. I payed 9.99 for 2001 - A Space Odyssey :)

OK, petrol might be expensive here ... but at least we know we are being responsable towards the environment! And we've got to pay for public services somehow. People complain about taxes too often ... if taxes were as low as in the US, then we'd end up with a far greater level of social inequality.

I remember reading a reader's letter in a French magazine (pour les francophones: c'était Télérama ... très intellectuel, hein? ) .. at Easter where the author wrote: "The Republic stands for both liberty and equality. However, you have to decide which matters more. I prefer liberty, and that is why I will vote for the right" But the way I see it, equality feeds directly into liberty. If you are living on the minimum wage, your poverty restricts your liberty.

It's a sentiment I've often heard from East Germans who say "In the GDR we had plenty of money, but just nothing to buy. Today it is worse ... there is everything to be bought, but no money to buy it with!"

So people, pay up and be happy! :D

Why does social inequality matter? It seems to be taken as a common truism that social inequality is a Bad Thing, but no one has ever been able to give me a convincing argument why. By the way, I am talking about economic equality not equality before the law etc.

I'd be very interested to hear your thoughts on this.

Well, it all rather depends your perspective. If you're rolling in it I'm sure you'll see no problem at all. If on the other hand you are living below the poverty line, you might feel differently.

And for the rich snobs around ... they'd benefit too ... socially equal soceities experience less crime.
