Fake or typing error ?????????????????

Post by Nordstern »

A hit of mine ???

Everybody knows that all Austrian 5 Euro notes had been printed by Oesterreichische Nationalbank, Austria (short code F).
The short code I entered started with F*****
I'm sure that this the right code because I check all of my entries very closely befor inserting them.
KHDP entered a different short code started with P*****. I never noticed an Austrian 5-Euro note starting with P*****

So please could someone of the moderators check this and give me a feedback by e-mail or in the forum.

BTW: I was asked to overwrite KHDPs entry. IMHO it's not good to allow users to do this.
In this case I was sure that I'm right and so I did. But this could open the door for hundreds of faked entries.

It should be marked as a suspicious hit and checked by some of the moderator team or Phillipe.

Not all, see Statistics -> Tables and you'll see that there are N notes printed by P. Not that much (about 200), but still they do seem to exist. In fact, it looks like I've entered one such note myself, see this note. Of course it might also be a typo on my part, but I do try to be careful when entering notes.

I'll have a closer look.. but it might be just a typo.

The million-euro question is: Do you still have that note? Could you please triple-check that it's indeed F and not P?

Yes, there are 5E N-notes printed in P. I've entered my first begin this week. They are very rare.

I don't think KHDP will enter fake notes. He's a real EBTer (just like you and me  ). Maybe the 2 notes have the same serial :? :?:

You don't overwrite. It just tells you that the same serial and value was entered with a different shortcode earlier.
As for fakes, I don't know what is really in circulation so we can only decide based on previous entries and statistical "analysis"... Based on that, it seems that it is possible : some german notes have the same serial but different values (or shortcodes, can't remember)

Hello avij !

Unfortunately I spent the note but I'm sure that my short-code is the right one.
BTW: This is the THIRD time since October 2002 this happens to me.
After the first time I began to check very closely all my entries before inserting them.

I insert my notes in my private database too and I compared this serial number with neighboured entries.
All have a short code starting with "F". EBT database contains 100 times more entries than mine.
It should possible to do the same comparison in EBT database. But only Philippe can do (or someone of the moderator team?).

Now I'm asking myself how many hits in the past (and in the future) I have to doubt, because this happened to other users too
without saying any words.

I slowly loose confidence in the whole system...

It's like the same problem as before. We need an extra check.

Yes . The serial and the value and the shortcode, not just the value and the serial.
