Communication with friends

Post by Urbanus »

Hi there,

this is a question I asked at the German forum and they told me to post it to the English one, too.

I recommended eurobilltracker.com to some people and I just found out that one of them created an account by accident. Unfortunately he didn't use the link I sent to so he won't show up in the "referers" list at the statistic page.

Is there any possibility to
  1. search for a username and
  2. communicate with that user via a personal message system
I know you can do this with this forum, but I would be very happy if you could do this on the original site, too.

Alternatively you could implement a "favorites" folder where one could add his/her friends.

Regards

The only way I know to view the amount of notes someone has entered is to replace your member number into his/her member number (into the taskbar) when you view your own 'Account details'. Somewhere in the code in the taskbar, you can see your member number. Just replace that number and enter 8) .

It's a good idea to implement a "favorites" folder for friends  .

There is currently no method for searching for user based on their user name, but you can view others' information if you know their user ID number.

There are currently no plans to implement a messaging system, but the friends/favorites/.. feature has been on my todo list for some time now. I hope to get the time to implement it some day..

Maybe we should change the referers tab by a relations tab. There could be an input box labelled user ID with 2 buttons next to it being:
Add as a friend
Add as a favourite

Then you could have a list like
  • Joined Username Relationtype(s) Number of notes
    2003-02-01 user1 referee 123
    2003-04-05 user2 referer 321
    2003-06-08 user3 referer, friend 58 remove as a friend
    2003-05-07 user4 admirer 5
    2002-12-13 user5 wannabe friend 8 accept as a friend
2003-07-03 user6 potential friend 7 remove as a potential friend
    2003-07-08 user7 victim 1057
    2003-03-03 user8 aggressor 178
The names I put on it where quickly devised, so I pretty sure there are better descriptions. And everything could be a bit hard to implement, I don't know. And we also need to consider that it all has to be translated.

Anyway here are the things I thought about.

Referee : the one who refered you to this site (if he/she exists)
Referer : one of the users you refered to this site (and got detected)
Friend : someone you added as a friend and accepted you as a friend
Potential friend : Someone you added as a friend, but didn't accept you (yet). To accept all you would have to do is to click on the link.
Wannabe friend : someone who added you as his friend, but where you didn't accept (yet)
Favourite : someone you added as a favourite
Admirer : someone who added you as a favourite
Aggressor : someone who has hit you
Victim : someone you hit

  Maybe such a user-to-user evaluation system could be used to indicate or even automatically exclude woombelists and other cheaters

Amazon uses the information which books users bought together to make suggestions to other users ("Customers who bought this book also bought:..."), and that's pretty useful.
