Consecutive numbered brand new 500 euro bills @ the bank

Post by brunorodrigues »

I may have been one of the first EBT users ever, then dropped it and now I'm back again. If I'm repeating someone else's question, flame me like mad but point me in the right direction (the thread, that is).

My sister works in a bank and sometimes she gets packs of brand new notes. A few minutes ago, she called me and told me she as a pack of 500 euro bills with consecutive numbering. She gave me the first and last numbers and I'm sure I've got consecutive numbers.

What should I do? Can I register these notes on EBT?

Here is an official statement that you should not enter them, because even in stacks of brand new notes some serials might be missing:

Or read the whole discussion here:

Entering the first and the last one should be no problem.

Hmm.. Couldn't she quite quickly check the last few numbers of each number? They should have increments of nine, with everything ending with 0 jumped over. Thus, the numbers should for example end this way: 4, 12, 28, 36, 44, 52, 68, 76, 84, blahblah :)

With some notes, such as the N ones, also the first number might change.

I don't think it is a good idea to discuss about that in this public forum :?

I think anybody interested already - even without this thread - got the idea how the last digit of the number is calculated. Scurity by obscurity does not work.

i used to get stacks of new notes, which i always checked.

i learned to do it very quickly by just counting the forelast number. for instance: 013 022 031 049 i would count 1 2 3 4 etc.

I have noticed that with €5 stacks they are usually very consistent, but the rest can be a big mess, especially with the 20€ notes, there are often many notes missing, or it can jump complete series. Also make sure to check the short code, as it often changes a letter!

All notes i have entered have passed through my own hands

I think it is also not a big probality that 500 € notes will be found by an other user.

I don't think it is not. What's the problem? Security by obscurity is good, but there is no security problem here.

Entering only one of the notes is bad, because another user could enter all of them later and then be accused to get a hit into series.

Hi brunorodrigues! Nice to see you again and welcome back! I remember that three years ago you were on top of second page. I was waiting for your jump on first page but then you had stopped acitivity.

Nice to see you again!

About your inquiry, indeed such discussions were here already and you should not do it. Would be a pity if you, as a special welcome, might end up in the "Suspicious notes and users"-thread.
