I'm sorry, my gutt feeling said otherwise, but it's not always correct, when French is concerned.
And that for a future teacher in French :oops:

Maybe it's because of the way it sounds when you speak it out, because you make the 'liaison'

well, it was, because I had always pronounced bonne anniversaire, not bon anniversaire. There is a difference :wink: , even with the 'liaison'.
