Warm greetings to all Slovenians and especially to Jan88, with whom I just had a very nice hit (my first one, and also the first one in my town; and the first one for Jan88 himself). I guess he's not an active user on the forum, unless he does so with a different username.
Let's hope it's the first of a series ;-)

I was thinking of that too. Maybe I will follow my note within a few years. I have to wait until my sons are old enough..... :P :D :P

Big compliments to everyone - from today, Slovenia joins the top 10 countries with the most banknotes inserted, bypassing Greece :)

Hey, I'd like you to hop onto the International Game on the Off-Topic forum. Here's a link: http://forum.eurobilltracker.eu/viewtop ... sc&start=0 .
I'd really like to see something in Slovenian there, as that thread is a magnificent way of learning new languages.

Rad! (Hoping this is the correct form - na žalost ne govorim dobro slovensko, I've been trying to start learning it for a few years but never seem to find the time :().

I'll visit tomorrow (Saturday) with my girlfriend; we'll come by train and check out a few sights and shops (is Kruh-pecivo a good kavarna?). And find a place where they serve good beer (is there anywhere especially good, which is also open early? - we have to leave by early evening; but we'll come again soon).

Two further questions:
Are there any specialty shops for chocolate(s)?
Where can I exchange some notes ;)? Are any banks open or is there an exchanger at the train station? Or anywhere else?

You can go about 15 minutes from train station (right from big S) - left to Europark-big shopping center across Drava (Drau) river. There you can shopping, drinking, eating, lift money from Geldautomaten ... A bank left near big red church (partizanska street), near the Tito's bridge is open at saturday from 8-11.

No. I (and my parents) am from Lower Austria originally, I've only lived in Graz for the last seven years.
One of my girlfriend's great-aunts lived in Sotina (near Murska Sobota?), that's about all of my connection to Slovenia.

No hit in Maribor today, but what a fine city! Especially the mestni park - I like that one much more than the Stadtpark in Graz.
And the icecream at Ilich was very good - and huge!

We had a great day mostly just looking at the usual tourist sights, and will visit again as soon as possible; and I finally have a reason to really start larning slovensko, as I don't want to always be asking "Ospotite, govorite nemško ali angleško?" ;).

Nice to hear that you have good impressions from MB. I studied there and I like it much more than Ljubljana.

A small correction: "Oprostite, govorite nemško ali angleško?"
