i just have added those words to my "nickname" :

wants EBT united

if each of the EBTers in Europe does the same , perhaps it can have a great impact .
I'm really ashamed about what happens on EBT those past days , we all represent Europe, we all represent unity . and we show to the World the worst image we can ...

I guess there will (still) stay some loyalists in eurobilltracker.com and therefore it would be good to release some new improvements in eurobilltracker.eu to show which site is more vital. Maybe a few of them would join to us, rebels. However, I don't think anyone of us is ready to start to work on new improvements in this situation.

I remember avij told a couple of years ago that there was a discussion about putting some banners on EBT, but they decided not to take them, as they would have highly disturbed the outlook of the website and they wouldn't have been a so good business. In addition, it would have pushed out some of the users. And I believe him.

I don't know what kind of person Philippe is but I really wonder couldn't he foresee the reaction of his action? The impression I have got is that he is impulsive and good at making new ideas but he is not persistant enough to carry them out.

When you pay €200 to keep someone else's site alive, you're more than a simple volunteer. I cannot understand that Giro is still getting all this support for doing virtually nothing!

Economist wrote:A lot of other website, which like EBT solely live from user content, are commercial. Take Facebook, MySpace and so forth. What' wrong with that?
Nothing, but they're backed by a company who's paying its developers. Very simple.
Who would you pay in this case? There's no team of developers behind EBT. They don't work 8h a day on this site. Sometimes they make a new feature, translation, but that's it.
And if you do start paying for every contribution to EBT, it will only lead to even more trouble.

No, you don't. You still retain the copyright (in German: "Urheberrecht") for your work.
Unless you explicity donate (i.e. by commenting to do so in the source) your code that is, of course.

Maybe. But many of us, including a lot of power users, are banned at the .com site.
Since I am also blocked, I have already turned my back to the "other version" of EBT.

I also got several hits at the .com site and already complained on Dec. 25th about the missing notification mails.
It seems that Giro has not yet fixed that problem - as well as a whole lot of other hiccups on his new server.

As most of my hit partners have moved to the .eu site and already re-entered their bills, I mostly don't care.
However, it hurts that one of my hit partners, 1,2Dimethylbenzen has not made the transition to .eu yet. :-(

Cookies and more...

By the way, did anybody also notice, that Giro wants us to accept two cokies, when attempting to access the .com site?
__utma (valid for 2 years)
__utmb (valid for 30 minutes)

The .eu site in contrast only tries to set one Cookie (cookieLanguage) and this one only stores the language to be used.
Giro also changed the copyright statement on his site and in the PHP/HTML source code:

Code: Select all

<!-- Document generated using PHP. Site design & database is (c) 2002-2007 Philippe Girolami.
Site backend is (c) 2002-2008 Philippe Girolami with parts from Anssi Johansson and Marko Schilde -->

<class="copyright">This site is © 2002-2007 Philippe Girolami.
Parts of the backend are © 2004-2007 Anssi Johansson and/or Marko Schilde

Uhh, yes and you can't access the .com site if you don't accept both of Giro's new cookies.

Btw, he apparently completely disregards the work of all voulunteers who have been translating the site on basis of the copyright statement on the .com site.
