Actually, according to my Atlas, there are several spanish islands near the marrocan coasts: Perejil, Velez de la Gomera, Alhucemas (near Al Hoceima), the islands Chafarinas (near Ras-el-Ma).

This crisis could be a pretext to start a general negociation on all the spanish islands and territories (+Ceuta and Melilla).

yes the sittuation is a lot more complicated then it looks.. Morroco had many motifs to do this, first if spanish didn't react, in some years they could try to occupy Ceuta and Melilla with the excuse that Perejil was also spanish and they were there for years without complains..

if spain reacted, the comparisions with the Gibraltar issue would be automatic, and Gibraltar is being discussed now.. and this is of course in favor to Morroco view..

then there are still the Ocidental Sahara issue, Spain wants a referendum there (I agree) Morroco don't  , but on the other end, what's the spanish legitimacy, when they refuse to do a referendum in Galicia, Basque Country and Catalunya?! :!: :?:

there are many different issues.., according to the net polls, portuguese are with moroco, but the common european foreing policy don't

perhaps because it's a spanish guy leading it? but of course the guy must be from some country.. and only one! this is always going to happen, there aren't "pure-europeans" yet..

It was given with Ceuta as a marriage gift of a portuguese princess. :!: Forget it! If we gave it, we gave it and don't want it back!

about Sahara Occidental, I think the best would be to consult people living there. We can't consult the poor goats of Perejil :P it's not the case in the other territories. After all, we don't even know what peoples of Ceuta, Melilla and Gibraltar want.

About the european foreign policy, all what happened in Perejil shows us that the european foreign policy simply doesn't exist... We just heard noise between Madrid, Brussels...

macau is the only portuguese ex-colony that always had it's own currency, wich are patacas, they are a lot older then escudos.. in portugal there are more traditional sayings about patacas then escudos.. I think timor and goa had patacas for some time, but their last currency while being portuguese colonies were escudos

look a pataca from 1945:

also in portuguese and chinese!

PS: only the bank is not the same, it used to be the portuguese Overseas National Bank, now is Bank of China.
