The city is predominantly called Bayonne. As always, names of the city in other languages (such as Bayona (es), Baiona (eu) or Bajono (eo) in this case) may have a surprising effect.

Mmm.... and now I remember that there is another (small) village in Spain that is called Bayona... this could be quite confusing :lol:

The correct name for Beneden Leeuwen is Beneden-Leeuwen, with a dash "-" between "Beneden" and "Leeuwen". See for instance the website of the municipality of West Maas en Waal, of which Beneden-Leeuwen is the main town.

8013 Graz-Geidorf has different coordinates than 8015 Graz-Geidorf than 8036 Graz-Geidorf, which has different coordinates than 8036 Graz-Stifting. And so on. There isn't an easy one-to-one correspondence between parts of the city and postal codes.

Hi,

I'm going to Frankfurt (am Main) to spend some notes... :lol:

It will be the first time I go there and I would like to know wether I must write "am Main" or not... perhaps it is a silly question, but I've recently had a little trouble with city names and... I don't want tomake a mistake again... :roll:

When I want to enter notes of "cities" I'm not sure how to write it, I use the search-function in EBT.

In this case, when I search for frankfurt I got two possibilities: Frankfurt am Main and Frankfurt (Oder).

The names on the list you receive are the official names of the city-profiles, so these I would ever use.
So here, you should enter the notes as Frankfurt am Main.

Thankyou very much. It's true. That's a very useful tool. I used it too and I saw the results. the city can be written in other ways too, but the best one is Frankfurt am Main. 8)

Well, i'll have a new dot in my "poor" map :lol:

EBT doesn't locate the dot according to city name alone, but instead to a combination of a city name and a postal code.
If the postal code you have used exists in one of the several likewise named cities, then EBT knows for sure which city you are meaning.

I would just be lazy and write "Frankfurt", no matter which of the Frankfurts I am visiting. EBT will then look at the postal code I have entered and the note will be entered into the correct place.
Of course, if you write a wrong or unknown postal code, the dot might then temporarily jump to some very freaky spot, for example in middle of some fields in Niedersachsen. But even then the dot plotter team will be automatically alerted of the missing coordinates and the dot will appear within a couple of days.

I have entered a note from Herzberg am Harz with only "Herzberg" as the place name and the entry ended up in the correct spot on the map.

most of these town name appendixes are only for advertismental purpose, to sound cool, and people don't use them or even don't know that they are an official part of the name, while for other towns there are appendixes that are not official and people think that they were official.
I don't ever use such geographical appendixes that are built from names of rivers, lakes or landscapes where the town is located, that is because the location is clear with the post code

for example the capital of the Austrian Bundesland Kärnten used to be called "Klagenfurt", or in Slovenian "Celovec"
then they thought it would be cool to rename the town, now it is named "Klagenfurt am Wörthersee", or in Slovenian "Celovec ob Vrbskem jezeru" :lol: :lol: :lol:

I can only assume that "Roterdamo" is some obscure variation on my hometown Rotterdam. This is supported by the postcode used in the only "Roterdamo" hit, which uses a postcode in the center of the city.
