Summer-EBTM09: Candidate organisers/candidate cities

Post by magpie »

Hi all,

Thank you Mr Euro for having done a great job. I'm stepping up so that we don't have any further delay and you have the opportunity to place your candidacy.

Another great EBT-year is getting to the end. It has become a tradition that at the end of the year, we are looking for a new place to hold next year's official eurobilltracker meeting. Summer-EBTM09.

In this topic, you can volunteer to organise Summer-EBTM09. This topic will be closed on January,1st, so that in January we can (if necessary) filter out candidates. The meeting jury will decide later on what kind of selectionmethode will be used (voting or lottery)

Requirements/conditions/guidelines for organisers

* Two organisers or more. One will appointed as the main-organiser
* The main organiser is at least 21 years old
* The main-organiser should be able to communicate in English
* At least one of the organisers should have participated in an official international Eurobilltrackermeeting
* At least one of the organisers should live in or know the city very well where the event will take place
* At least one of the organisers should have organised a national EBT-meeting

Requirements/conditions/guidelines for candidate-city

* The city should have a certain touristic appeal. International EBTM-participants will stay for more than one day. They should be able to see more things than they will see on the meetingday. (Touristic examples: Museums, touristic happenings or events, statues, old buildings/churches/castles or other touristic siteseeings, animal zoo, themeparc, concerts, boat or ferrytrips...)
* The city should be located near an international airport.
* The city should have a railroadstation, preferrable an international railroadstation
* There should be youth-hostels nearby where people can stay cheap
* There should be a location big enough to host the General Assembly of the Association
* There should be a few restaurants which are able to have a large group of people eating there or two/three restaurants located near eachother which can handle some smaller groups.
* The city has a national bank which can be visited by EBTM-participants or has some sort of euro-related place to visit (Examples: europarlement, money-museum, ... ). This will be considered as a bonus and not that important at all.

Remember this a checklist. If a candidate doesn't match any of these conditions, they still can be a candidate to organise an official international eurobilltrackersmeeting.
Still, the more requirements a candidate-organising team has, the more credibility the candidacy has.

Candidates place your candidacy here in this thread before January, 1st. If you do so, give us the name(s) of the organising team, the city you want to organise summer-EBTM09 in and the dates that you can organise it. A detailed schedule of the event is not needed, the big lines are appreciated.

Please, keep this thread for candidates only!

In the name of the organising committee I’m glad to announce VIENNA as candidate for the Summer-EBTM09!

The committee consists of -star-, ErGo, jack_isidore, nossi, zimmerge and me (Burky) as chairman. Some other Viennese and Austrian Users offered their help.
All committee-members are over 21 and most of us are able to communicate in English. Four of the committee attended at least one international meeting. All six of us regularly attend the monthly Viennese meetings (Stammtisch) and do live in Vienna.therefore we will be able to get out the max of the meeting for everyone.

We suggest that the max consists of:
- Visit at the OeNB (Austrian National Bank) - which already is confirmed
- Day-trip to Bratislava, the capital of new Euro-member Slovakia
- Visit at the United Nations Building in Vienna
Furthermore we are able to offer:
- Nice location for the general assembly (if necessary)
- Party with barbecue
- Visiting a Viennese brewery (Ottakringer) including beer-testing – they also offer other non-alcoholic drinks
- Visit at a Heurigen (unique Austrian and typical Viennese style of sitting together and eating) offering local wines
- Visit at a typical Viennese Café
And if there is interest we will give you guided Tracking-tours and guided Sightseeing-tours

Vienna has good international connections by train and plane and very good public transport. The city offers lot of accommodation in all price-categories.
Vienna offers a lot of great sights including Schoenbrunn and the Giant Wheel, many museums and lots of friendly banks… ;-)
Besides these facts, Vienna at the moment is number one city at entered notes, has the most hits in 2008 to date and has a very active EBT-community. For those interested, at the moment we offer an overall hit ratio of about 1:140.

Because of the participation of OeNB (Austrian National Bank) we only can offer a fixed date for the Thursday till Sunday meeting. This date will be depending on a date suggested by OeNB.

If Vienna is accepted as meeting-location, we will announce a final program fitting to the number of participants.
