Improvement for the note correction page

Post by AssetBurned »

Hi,

I just got a dump from my notes and saw that several comments (arround 1700) should be corrected. I started with some of these corrections but it is a bit annoying to do that by hand. Especially if I only want to change the comments.

My first suggestion is that the correction page (the one where you have to select the value and type in the serial) get an additional command field, so that this one could be directly entered. In addition it get a third button to directly apply this change. After pressing this button, the page with the old and new values should be shown.
That should be easily doable.

And the second is more complex. The whole correction page, should be more like the "new notes" page. So that you can change several notes at once.

If really all entries of a certain comment, zip code or place shall be edited this can be easily done by the support team. They've got a script for this.

ah ok, didn't know that.

but still why isn't there a function for a normal user to do that? i mean it is not that i want to change the location. So i don't think that this would need any review. and i also think that is nothing that had to be done by an admin. they have enough things to do, so why bother them?

Quite frankly, one of the reasons is that with such a function normal users could screw up things very easily, ie. they could accidentally change the comments of all their notes even though they tried to change the comment of only a few entries. And when that happens, it's going to need some admin to restore the data..

no you misunderstood me.
I wasn't asking for a script that replaces one text by another text.

I was asking for a web page that allows me to change more than just one comment at a time.
Think of the new notes page. remove the plate number field and you have what I was asking for.

I think nobody really understands what exactly you're asking for.

As for editing multiple entries, the support has access to such an interface, but I'm not sure it'd be a good idea to make this feature publicly available for the reasons avij has given.

If you manage to enter 1700 notes with a wrong comment, sooner or later you (or some other user) will manage to fatally misuse this interface and overwrite major parts of your note data ... and then what?

Why should somebody else overwrite my note data?! That would show a lack of security in the database and that is clearly not what I asked for.

All I want to do is to change all the notes with a comment such as "nwe sign" or "new signature" or "trichet" in the comment field to something such as "JCT". Or translate German comments to English comments.
The problem is that it is far to much to do it for each note individually and there are too many different comments to ask a Admin "could you please use the script to replace all my XY by YX?". And why should I bother a admin for that anyway? Don't they have enough other things to do?
