Re: Incorrect dots and inaccuracies among city profiles
Looking at my dotmap, I can't find the location of my notes entered at "Maasvlakte" (there's a spot on the map of my note, so it is located somewhere, but I can't find it).
I do understand you won't give a location to each postcode, but in my opinion at least each city/village would have their own spot.
Most buildings in Maasvlakte are companies, where only those who works there can get notes, but I was in a "public restaurant" (so where everyone can go to) and next to it there's an exhibition-center (with the same postcode).
Therefor I would like to ask, if you can plot the location of this postcode to 51.959722222 N, 4.0152777778° E.
I don't know if there's already a plot for the rest of Maasvlakte of its own, but if there isn't maybe you can use this spot for the rest too (because it's the spot where mnost of us can get their notes).
It's the same with my notes from Europoort.
The exact location where I got this note (a hotel) was 51.917922°N,4.181188°E.
Here (in "Europoort") there're more "public locations" where someone can get notes (for example: Restaurant De Nieuwe Pionier, 3198 LC), so I won't suggest to change all the coordinates of "Europoort" to this spot. You can also change the coordinates of my notes to the (if present) location of "Europoort".

Re: Incorrect dots and inaccuracies among city profiles
Also the next cities (I've just
looked for the island of Goeree-Overflakkee) can't be seen on my Google dotmap:
Sommelsdijk: 51.759583 N,4.152022 E
Stad aan 't Haringvliet: 51.73563 N,4.239492 E
Nieuwe-Tonge: 51.714086 N,4.165328 E
Den Bommel: 51.714279 N,4.289461 E
Herkingen: 51.710597 N,4.087247 E
Stellendam: 51.803346 N,4.026597 E
Achthuizen: 51.688838 N,4.279355 E (postcode of the ATM here is 3256 AG)
Oude-Tonge: 51.693005 N,4.213648 E (postcode of the ATM here is 3255 BE)
Melissant: 51.770854 N,4.071875 E (postcode of the ATM here is 3248 BH)
Dirksland: 51.747399 N,4.106333 E (postcode of the ATM here is 3247 KG)
Goedereede: 51.818998 N,3.978542 E (postcode of the ATM here is 3252 AJ)
The suggested coordinates are the locations where I think most of us can get the notes from.
First choice is an ATM. If there's no ATM in the village, I picked the middle of the shops.

Thank you, but the dot is not appearing yet.rlaurenssen wrote:I have given your location coordinates for the auto grill, you where the only one who entered notes in this location.Phaseolus wrote:So there should be a way for repositionning the bills found under postcode 40024.
(Keep in mind that every different kind of spelling, even capitals and different postal codes, has it's own location in EBT)
So this means that Castel san pietro terme and Castel San Pietro Terme are 2 separate locations in EBT, which are merged
into one city profile. This is making it very difficult to give the correct coordinates for each unique location.
In your case it means that it could make a difference of a new dot or not, since the dot line is crossing this particular village.
As for the city profiles for international airports, I agree that it deserves it's own city profile. However for auto grills and gas stations along the motorway, I do not agree for a own city profile. It should be sufficient to use the correct city/town, it would be very difficult for city profilers to determine if it's a auto grill or just the village itself, since we can not see the note reports from a particular location just the location, the number of bills and users which are connected to the location.
I got the postcode from the Italian fourm that gives the location of the AutoGrills on the Italian motorways. It's surprisisng that I would be the first one to register a bill there. So, maybe the location is different. When looking on the map, you can see clearly, that there are 2-3 kilometer distance between the city in question and the motorway.
Maybe an Italian user could help here ?

Re: Incorrect dots and inaccuracies among city profiles
I'm sorry, this was my mistake. I picked the wrong location for you. I picked Castel San Pietro Therme, instead of
Castel San Pietro Terme. See the image which variations are entered for this city, now you also see why it's so easy to make a mistake.

I corrected yours now, the dot should appear any minute now. However, the postal code for the city itself is also 40024. So I hope there aren't any users who will lose a dot now.

Re: Incorrect dots and inaccuracies among city profiles
The coordinates for Castel San Pietro Terme should be at the village center. If there is no way for us location managers to see whether a bill is entered at the autogrill or at the village itself you (phaseolus) should use a precise location (as is the case right now). For example use Castel San Pietro Terme (Autogrill). Then we can add the exact coordinates to your Autogrill location without loosing the coordinates for the village itself. We will subsume the Castel San Pietro Terme (Autogrill) location in the Castel San Pietro Terme city profile. The Autogrill location will have its own coordinates then.

We have at the moment >300 notes in Castel San Pietro Terme and probably some of them come from the Autogrill.Phaseolus wrote:Thank you, but the dot is not appearing yet.rlaurenssen wrote:I have given your location coordinates for the auto grill, you where the only one who entered notes in this location.Phaseolus wrote:So there should be a way for repositionning the bills found under postcode 40024.

Well i don't like particularly this way to adjust things to get a dot specially because nobody complains till now about this Autogrill.
Dothunting is a challenge and if you wanted that dot where Sillaro service area is located you should simply exit the motorway and going to the close village (Poggio Piccolo for instance to get a not and your dot).
just my 2 cents
and i wouldn't advertise this solution to make locations too accurate adding buildings (for instance: ATMs, banks, post offices, shop xyz, etc.) where we got notes.BaliBennie wrote:The coordinates for Castel San Pietro Terme should be at the village center. As a matter of facts we have comment fields for this kind of purpose.
And citymanger job would increase a lot to subsume each new location to the right one (see rlauressen post above)

Yes it has been merged with the correct city profile, but we can't edit the note data so unfortunatly this wil stay the same.maarsy wrote:http://nl.eurobilltracker.com/notes/?id=79634241

Re: Incorrect dots and inaccuracies among city profiles
I just entered some notes (like this one) from Walheim. But the dot appeared at the wrong spot (it's in Nordrhein-Westfalen).
Please change the location to 50.70665° N, 6.181054° E.
I don't know which municipality it belongs to (if it's Aachen, Stolberg or independent).

Re: Incorrect dots and inaccuracies among city profiles
is it a bad idea to always have all coordinates the same for all equivalent locations?rlaurenssen wrote:
I mean, whether you write Terme or Therme, the coordinates should not be changed for one of these locations only.
As "Castel San Pietro" doesn't exist, this should also be treated the same as "Castel San Pietro Terme", so all locations with postal code 40024 have the same coordinates
and is it a good idea to copypaste all correct coordinates to all wrong-spelled locations (in this case, the wrong post code 40100)? Especially in Finland, I see that all nonsense spellings in all profiles are given the standard location for the profile, even in the "unknown" profile - wouldn't it be easier to leave the coordinates at 0,0 for wrong data, and the coordinates for a note entry is then automatically calculated from the average of the city profile?
Especially in cases where the wrong country flag is used, it should be standard to leave the coordinates unassigned.
0,0 coordinates for wrong entries would also create the possibility to use this as a feature, so as to inform the user in a more explicit way than now that the entry they made is not existing and he may correct the entry. (of course, such a feature should exclude new entered locations - users should not be encouraged at all to change a location to the name of the city profile, if the city profile includes different locations)

done - moved to Aacheneddydevries wrote:I just entered some notes (like this one) from Walheim. But the dot appeared at the wrong spot (it's in Nordrhein-Westfalen).
this always happens when a place name only exists once in the database (Walheim, Landkreis Ludwigsburg), then the new location is put into the existing profile

Re: Incorrect dots and inaccuracies among city profiles
To reply on androl's post, I see that there are many different interpretations about how to apply rules as a citymanager. For me it's also not always clear how handle a specific case, maybe it could be a good idea to have a meeting on Irc and discuss some issues. If you are a active citymanager, please contact me by pm so that we might be able to discuss some issues.
Re: Incorrect dots and inaccuracies among city profiles
I totally agree. It's quite strange to see a unknown location (or with obvious total wrong postalcode) having exact co-ordinates.androl wrote:...and is it a good idea to copypaste all correct coordinates to all wrong-spelled locations (in this case, the wrong post code 40100)? I too agree, and am already implementing this for Austria, whenever I come across such locations.yli wrote:I totally agree.
