Irish €5?

Post by SeanW »

Hey;

As everyone knows, some years ago countries stopped printing all denominations, going instead for an each country commissions 3 or 4 denominations approach. So for that reason, :flag-ie: :note-5: Irish €5s (combination K/T) have been quite rare - and I've been paying more attention to local :note-5: notes because I've been getting my bank to give me loads of them in exchange over the last few weeks.

In any case, over the last few weeks I've seen 3 or 4 K/T :note-5: notes, all of them, until now have been very old notes with a Duisenberg signature. But today, I got ONE K/T 5 with Trichets' signature that looks to be in good condition.

I assume this is an old note but I want to be sure, so I have a couple of questions.
1) When did the 4 denominations maximum arrangement start?
2) When did Wim Duisenberg step down from the ECB and I guess more importantly, when were the first Trichet notes printed?

Thanks in advance.

According to the website of the ECB, Ireland does produce :note-5: this year.
See here.

Duisenberg stepped down in july 2003. I don't know when the first Trichet-notes were printed.

Thanks, that explains a lot.

I knew a lot less about these arrangements than I thought :oops:

A couple of years ago :note-5: K-T were relatively common but they have been becoming progressively rarer with the passing of time. Nevertheless the banks still have some stocks of these notes as a couple of months ago I got 10 new :note-5: K001T signed Duisenberg from my local Post Office.
The allocation for printing notes can be found here:- http://www.ecb.int/stats/euro/productio ... ex.en.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This info can be found, probably in places all over the forum, but here it is:

For the introduction of the Euro, every country that joined printed all denominations, except Ireland (no :note-200:) and Portugal (no :note-200: and :note-500:).

In the years since (2002 - now) every country has been given just a part of the production, generally 1 to 3/4 denominations per year ("small" countries to "large" countries/Germany). Some countries really stick to the same denominations every year (Belgium and Greece the best examples), Germany has now printed every 7 over the years.

Then Duisenberg stepped down as president and Trichet replaced him. This was in end October/begin November 2003. Some of the 2003-printed notes may have the Trichet signature already. I know that for the German :note-10: and the Austrian :note-100: have a plate number (the first three numbers of the short code) with both signatures, but the same number can be used in more than one year. I'm not sure on this, though. All 2004 notes should be with Trichet signature.

On the other hand, when I was in Ireland (2008) the vast majority of :note-5: (49/76) were Irish, some of them in uncirculated condition, all of them with Trichet signature. These were from the 2006 production.
I've only found 1 K/T :note-5: with Duisenberg signature, sometime ago here in the Netherlands.
My NIG stats have finally disappeared. My EBTST stats are still available.

When I started on this site 95% of notes in Ireland were Irish.
I think the rarest ones now would be 50s - can't remember the last time I saw one of those.
Saw an Irish 500 once - I recently heard that they are worth €800.
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

regarding the tables 5 euro note Y/P or Y/N are never been produced (2002-2010)
and many other notes are missing, so for me these info are not accurate.

You can find these notes here: http://www.ecb.eu/press/pr/date/2001/ht ... 05.en.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
It was the starting production, and it had to be ready before the 01/01/2002.
