EBT Hit Hotspots

Post by JHN-TX »

If I had just 1 :note-5: to enter and could spend it any where in Europe, as a % of notes entered , where is the one place that would give me best statistical chance of getting an international hit?
 Of course, the note would be entered just before being spent, and entered in location where being spent.
Is it possible to rank towns and cities accordingly?
(more serious stuff)

There is no doubt that :flag-fi: is a great place for getting hits.
I have :flag-fi: :flag-ie: hits with :note-5: :note-10: :note-20:

For Arthur`s Day (google) I have been considering picking a name at random from :flag-fi: phone book and sending them :note-5: with the message "have a pint of guinness on me"
Then I would know that I have at least 1 :note-5: circulating in :flag-fi: :)

Once I went to Antwerpen/Anvers/Amberes and Klön/Cologne/Colonia as well as Amsterdam, Brussels, etc. Which are good "hit-spots" I left something like 100 fivers (at each of those cities).

So far... nothing. I'm still looking foward my first international hit.

Having notes circulating in other countries is no guarantee of a hit. I have had notes put into circulation in the following countries:-
Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Estonia and Slovakia but have had no hits with these notes.
I have also had notes brought from Estonia and Slovakia resulting in this hit :- http://en.eurobilltracker.com/notes/?id=97387712" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I was expecting SeanW to have a few more :flag-fi: hits by now.
I suppose it is not a good  to expect a hit as it only leads to disappointment :( when it does`nt happen.

You shouldn't forget Malta as well. When I was there, the hit ratio was well below 1:100. Besides, I have heard that quite many bills circulating in Ireland are quite old, and old bills don't last long in Finland, since Finland is very strict with taking out old bills out of circulation.

well, that’s not exactly what i have been seeing. although the notes circulating in ireland definitely look older than the notes circulating in germany (and presumably also in finland, as you said), the percentage of bills with a duisenberg signature is significantly smaller than in germany. for me that looks like people in ireland just don’t care that much about how they treat their notes, so that the life ecpectancy goes down a lot. knowing this it seems to be even more unlikely to get a hit in ireland. i’m quite convinced that the possibility of getting a hit in ireland is higher when you enter a note which has not peen put into circulation in ireland (i.e. not one of these: :note-5: e/ :flag-nl: p, :note-10: + :note-20: k/ :flag-ie: t and :note-50: m/ :flag-es: v respectively j/ :flag-it: s).

Over here, the one hot-spot that immediately comes to mind is the town of Ericeira, which has a population of only a few thousand, but many of this country's biggest users are from there (although, not unlike countless other places in this country, since 2008 many have disappeared). It's also something of a tourist trap, which helps. :)

A nice hotspot is ofcourse :flag-de: Helmbrechts.

almost 600,000 notes entered, but there are only 8,800 people living there.

Phone books are so last year here in Finland. Some years ago the yearly issues were several centimetres thick. Now they might be as thick as ten lousy millimetres. People with mobile phones don't have their number(s) published in the book for several reasons. Older people, who are not that keen on mobile phones, is the biggest group still connected with a traditional phone. I presume, that they are not internet users as well, so sending a fiver by choosing a name from a phone book will not lead to a hit.

But you could always send me a fiver, or preferably two fivers, since a pint (half a litre here) of Guinness costs more than 5 euros (5.60 to 5.80 € seems to be the most usual price for a pint here). And with two fivers it would be easier to choose where to dump, I mean spend the money. It's hard to decide what locations of the following would be best for getting two :flag-ie: - :flag-fi: - :flag-fi: triples: Tuuri, Vihtavuori or Kouvola.

Yeah, I was surprised that I beat the Finnish hit average to get 3/96 active hits, but after dropping a similar number of notes, to get absolutely no passive hits at all in the intervening months.

As for hit hotspots, if you had a €5 to spend in Ireland with the objective of getting a passive hit, you want to go to Dalkey. Especially if you get there early in the day.

Dump or spend is ok.The worst possible outcome is to send a note to someone who is too mean to spend it .and hides it under the bed, where it will never be found.
