would it be an idea to hide the short code alltogether in the statistics? It would make it a lot harder to generate a fake hit. After all, it's not the bill's numbers that we, as genuine EBTs, are interested in, but the fact that is was reported more than once. I wouldn't even mind if the serial number was shown as Z0XXXXXXXXXX or something like that. Just as long as I can see where it was issued.

I don't think so. The "fake gang" can generate fake bills with one bill (you just need one serialnumber and one shortcode) in Excel. So they are ready in a moment to enter a lot of bills.

That's true, but the hooligans that last raided us, prooved they could hit any given user... and they could not do this if there were more than 9999 possibilities. (plus, if the printcode is omitted, they would generate an error, once they occasionally score a fake hit. )

If you don't like traveling, just watch where your Eurobill goes and let the banknote do the travelling for you!!
