Portuguese Dots

Post by Miles66 »

Hello Portugal :-)

Perhaps someone can help me :D

In your national Dot-Ranking you count 114+1 Dot for :flag-pt:

At ernie's Map http://euro.ernie-hh.de/maps/ (Click the link and then on the :flag-pt: flag) I count 112 possible Dots.

Now my questions: Where are the other 3 Dots ;-)

:?: Madeira? Azores? But then that must be more than 3 :?: ....

EDIT: ernie counts only Dots they are possible to track IN Portugal. And not these Dots, they have only a little bit ground in the next Dot, but will be only possible to track in :flag-es: ... That could be a possibility...

All 115 Dots are trackable from Portugal.

From North to south you get:

Code: Select all

6
7 Viana
7
7 Porto
6
6 Aveiro
6
6 Figueira
7
6 + 1 Berlengas
6
8 Badajoz
7 Cascais
6 Sesimbra
6
5
4
4
4 Faro
The "+1" refers to the Berlengas islands, which are just 20 km off shore from Peniche, there is a ferry-boat crossing to there, restaurants, etc, hence we decided to consider that dot as well.

As a reference, please have a look to the map of Castanhola, who has the 115 Dots (consider the left-most Dots)

The other two dots missing on ernie's map are tiny bits of Portugal near the borders with Spain, on the 5th and 8th rows counting from the bottom row. In fact, there is no way known to register notes on the latter; maybe but very unlikely on the former.

Vacations are over! I return to Switzerland.

I'm happy because my last three hits were done with Portugal with an amazing thing with mr Lamegated.
He found one of my swiss note and I found one of its here in Tomar and an other hit with lexiepexie (it sounds good).

I registred 469 notes (+ some tomorrow) and spread a lot of notes (more than 500) almost only new Europa :note-5: in Tomar, Leiria and CGD in Vila Nova da Barquinha.

So feel free to track them.

See you next year. Love Portugal.

Muito obrigado for this beauty, josel. Do you happen to have family in construction in Brussels, by any chance?

Great hit.

I wonder if there's any reason for you to think that specifically josel might have family in construction. Hundreds of Portuguese citizens are working in Brussels as translators, scientists, politicians, football players, entrepreneurs, diplomats, counter clerks, bartenders, artists, you name it.

That's true, but the only link I see for this particular note, is the bakery I go to, and which is also very popular with some Portuguese construction workers from across the street, and where they did some works. I'm quite sure I used this note there. But of course, it's not because they were probably responsible for it's shipping to Portugal, that they are in any way related with josel.

In fact i didn't even know Sébastien Laurent, the artist who created that map (and other similar ones for the entire world) in 2011. Anyway, although I love black humor and metabigotry, in general, I honestly fail to find the wit in these maps. Their imprecisions certainly add to my somewhat negative view on them: take for instance "flamenco" in Galiza or "Eskimos" in Northern Russia. I know these are supposed to be prejudices or common beliefs, I just don't buy that anyone may think of Northern Spain when speaking about flamenco, or of Northern Russia when mentioning Eskimos.

You're right, for the smarter people. The people who are really dumb wouldn't have placed flamenco in Spain at all. Or would have thought Spain lay somewhere in Northern Africa. Ignorance is widely and evenly spread all over the world, unfortunately...
