Maybe it was just an hoax, or someone wanted to get some space on the newspapers for free, but the news actually appeared on the press (micro - Olivier 1-0 :P )
News about the proposed Venice metro:

In a metro-related forum I found a link to a new article about the recent planning:
http://www.repubblica.it/online/cronaca ... nezia.html

But all I understood from the stupid Google translation is that everything is still in dispute.

Thanks micro for having found for me the thread
I planned to post something about the topic, but I'm too lazy to search this thread.
Actually, the project is very serious and it's going to be done; currently, anyway, they are waiting for more interesting proposals from other companies.
There will be an underwater metro and a surface metro connecting the main parts of the city. According to the article, it will be completed in 2009 or 2010.

No problem, I have special searching skills

So you think the thing is serious? A better connection between the airport and the city as mentioned in the article seems indeed useful, I remember it a bit complicated.

But if the metro will really be built I'm optimistic that the planning and construction teams will be aware of the certain conditions in Venice and make sure the city will not go down due to the metro construction...

Well, obvious :P
Not forgetting that tourism in Venice has a great importance for the economics of the whole area; I guess all the consequences and risks will be analysed very carefully, before really presenting the real project.
When they'll start to work I'll take some photos and I'll post them right here

Today, my newspaper had an article about the new "Sublagunare" project announced by a group of investors led by Actv, the local public transportation provider. In 7 years they want to build a 8.3 km connection from the airport via Morano to the arsenal for 250 million Euro. The project seems to be quite controversal. My impression: Still no idea when they will really start.

I usually drive European (German) cars, because my both parents have German cars.

I used to joke that I should go to Paris, drive around the Arc de Triomphe as a female driver in my German car with its Belgian register plates. At least I could test the famous courtesy of the Frenchmen - would they give way and let me into the roundabout and more importantly, let me OUT of it.

(Actually, I HAVE driven around that huge place where 12 streets converge. However, it was a rented French car, so I didn’t stand out of the crowd. And I didn’t crash into anyone!)

The Place de l'Etoile (around the Arc de Triomphe) is not as hard as its reputation is! :-)
