SHORT CODE - Explanation

Post by gabho »

hello,
i am finding some more information about SHORT CODES (printer code).
I am struggling with these questions.
1. what exactly means digits and characters in short code. I know that first means code of printer, but next digits and character are not so clearly for me.
2. what does it mean when I saw 3 different :note-5: (produced for portugal in Carregado) with same shortcode?

thanks

All this information can be found on the English Wikipedia article about the Euro banknotes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euro_bankn ... ting_works).

Basically, the same shortcode on the same denomination (value of the note) means the notes were printed by the same printing facilities (first letter), on the same plate (first 3 digits), and also — at different times, of course — on exactly the same position within the plate (same row, the letter; same column, the last digit).

That's so for most countries, but not all of them are changing. For example the Belgian printer still uses the plate T001.
