What to do with location fakers?

Post by Schlauchen »

In the german forum we noticed a user (no forum member) who inserts obviously wrong locations, he inserted for almost every town in Bavaria one note (not more, not less!), going straightly from north to south, tracking also villages (with the status of a "Gemeinde") where there isn't a single shop.
One german user found also out that he seems to enter notes in series : These two ( 1 / 2 ) notes have been entered in series by taucher, it's really strange that the suspected user finds the notes in different places in different times...
Another thing: normally, passionate dot- and location-hunters are present on the forum, no?
It's relatively easy to figure out when a user creates new serials (the cleaning girls take care about that), but how to define "location-faking"? How to prove that it's really a wrong location, and how to handle the situation?
(This is an annoying topic especially for bavarese users who'd like to be the first to track a location: Impossible, almost everywhere, THAT user has been there first!)

If there's a proof for location fake (I guess in this case it is) the related notes should been changed to the "unknown location"-profile as we do not know where he really had the notes. This would also point out clearly that location-fake is not accepted by EBT even when the notes are real.

As citymanager i noticed something similar in Germany again.
A user tracked a note from each community of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Schleswig-Holstein.
Nothing too suspicious on this except that imho it's quite impossible to get always only a note from each location.
So i decided to check visitors of those communities to discover who was that user and surprisingly he hiddened his identity.
Doesn't a location-hunter should be proud to show he has been able to track from a certain location?

There are several user that like to play in such way, maybe we can consider to seize everything to the origin location of the user or to the most used location.

there was also some times ago a greek user who was entering one or two notes from all over Europe at the same moment: even if he would have been a jet fighter pilot, it was materially impossible to cover those areas !

But you have to take in account that some users encode lists they make during their trip.
One day, I entered notes in Gjón (North of Spain), Cartagena (South of Spain), Tarragona and Barcelona (West of Spain), Martigues (South of France) and Paris. I didn't go to all these cities in one day, but I didn't have access to internet during a while.

IMHO, suspicious behaviour would be only if (for example) you had entered notes from every village, no matter how small, between Martigues and Paris in one day.
My NIG stats have finally disappeared. My EBTST stats are still available.

For cases like this it would be a good idea to enter the date, when you really had the note into the comment-field so that the time-stamp could become corrected later to avoid reverted hits.
