Your use of language

Hi EBT-folks. I have just posted a reply in the German forum. I have seen that I have made use of a quite more familiar (but sufficiently decent) language. How is it with you? Do you also express yourself in a far more familiar or popular language in your forums? Sometimes I really wonder how users from Portugal, Finland, Spain etc. communicate. In the English forum we all seem to be of one kind - always high language and more or less serious. Language wizards from other countries, who go to the German forum sometimes, might sometimes find it difficult or impossible to read some of my texts with the help of a dictionary.

So, what do you think of yourself? Do you think that your use of your very own language will be much "cooler" or popular than in the English (speaking) forums?

We have very nice atmosphere in finnish forum.. I'm much "cooler" there because I don't have to think what I'm typing

My english is not that good..

I think my style is about the same on the Finnish forum as on the English-speaking forums...

I don't write to any other forums as I don't know any other languages well enough. Well, maybe in the future when we'll have Swedish, Estonian and Hungarian forums.

I don`t find it different writing in English or Dutch - unfortunately I don`t have enough time to get involved in the German and Frensh divisions

but I`m pretty sure I won`t have a problem understanding them (replying might get me into errors but I`m pretty sure that people won`t mind that as long as it`s understandable

)

so using the foreign languages is for me always a little problem.
I dont know how to speak familiar english - so i use hig english but icant speak as good as i should do.

But at all i like mor the boards, where i can write in german - an there i type in fast an in a bad german but everybody understands me, because the other youngsters use the same language as i do.

My style of writing doesn't vary greatly between languages. I always try to use correct language - I used to work as an editor, I guess it comes with the job... But I realise this is an internet forum, so I won't go over it with a fine tooth comb and a copy of the Oxford Dictionary / Van Dale / whatever's the German equivalent next to my computer. I can be quite loose when I reply on the spur of the moment...

I think in Finnish forum I quite often write like spoken language but other languages I try to write "perfectly". Especially in German forum I always read my writings at least ten times through and try to find all the mistakes before I press submit-button.

I guess I always write more or less the same way in terms of formality, etc., both in English and in Portuguese. I try not to pass the marks, since although I feel quite at ease posting here, I try not to forget I don't know any of the people who post personally, and sometimes I may say things which are not OK for everyone.

I also post in the French forum every now and then, but my French is TERRIBLE (at least for someone who's taking an university degree in the language...

)

Well, our language is difficult enough, also compared not only to English, but French, Italian and the other Romanic languages, too. Hm, but the last days I went thoroughly through a grammar book of Finnish language. AAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHH!!!!! But this is exactly what your language makes a very, very interesting one. I would really like to learn it one day, but for my job I need to brush up my French and Italian and this costs enough time.
