Zipcode

Post by Bulldog »

Hi,
After my opinion it is impossible to know all zip codes so why we have to write it down when add new bank notes? Could it be more important that it was necessary to write where you got bank note like at Amsterdam airport or drugstore at Berlin and zip code shows only where you live? For example I got these bank notes I got from Helsinki-Vantaa airport and I have no idea what zip code is at airport so it is stupid to use my home zip code for it because airport is not even close my home.
What are your opinions about that?

the zip codes are necessary for putting the notes correctly on the maps i guess ?

But i know the feeling, i also always have to google to find the right codes. Sometimes that's a bit frustrating, maybe it would be possible to add them somewhere on the EBT server ?

Here in the Netherlands we have a online phonebook with (almost) all phonenumbers in it. If I am looking for a zipcode of a place a got a note from, I use that online phonebook (because with the listing of the phonenumber also the adres including zip-code is given).

In that way I can always find a zipcode that is accurate or within a few kilometers. Notes that I got in my hometown (just a little town with about 12.000 people) alway get my adresses zipcode.

zip code

Well that is true but I just thought about it yesterday because I was travelling by train and I bought cop of coffee at restaurant car middle of nowhere so it is hart to find zip code and other hand…when I add my notes on this tracker list I am at home and the bill is here and that note will leave my home when I put it in my pocket : )….so like I wrote Helsinki airport where I got it but now that note is here in my home…does that make too much confusing for fellow collectors?

i always followed the rule that the zip-code i enter is the place where i receive the bill, not where i spent it.

about the train : there was this thread, but it looks like most people have different ideas about what to do http://forum.eurobilltracker.eu/viewtopic.php?t=2666

The postcodes are needed for exakt tracking.

1) Some names of cites appear several times in a country, like "Neustadt" in Germany. The postcode makes the identification easier.

2) In bigger cities the postcode helps to determine distances when a note appears twice in the same city. Without exakt postcodes the hit distance would be 0 (nil), with exakt postcodes you obtain a realistic distance. (maybe 5 or 10 kilometers or so)

3) If you get a note in a train, I recommend you take the location of the next stop, because you surely know that the note has been there. You can also be sure that the note has been at the location of the last stop, but in the case of trains it is more difficult to determine the last stop before you received the note.
In ships or planes you can be sure that the note has been at the location of your departure.

4) You find many locations at www.maporama.com For some countries (BeNeLux, France, Germany) Maporama indicates postcodes. Unfortunately this does not work with Finland or Greece.

5) Yes, I would like to find links to postcode directories in the link section of EBT.

There's http://www.google.com which could help you a lot.

Words Helsinki-Vantaa lentoasema postinumero gave first link this

so it's not that hard to find those postcodes...

If you go to Finland you can use this service to find the correct post code:

http://www.posti.fi/postinumeroluettelo/
Searching instructions wrote:Use only one search key at a time. You can search for the postal code of a certain street or the street names and numbers falling under a certain postal code.

You will also find out the name of the municipality in which the post office in question is located or the postal codes that appear within the area of a certain municipality.

When searching for a street name, you may also use partial match search which requires at least 6 characters + %, for example by entering Kirkko% the search result will display all street names in Finland starting with the word 'Kirkko'.

A couple of words you may find useful:

kadunnimi = street name
postinumero = postal code
postitoimipaikka = post office
kunta = municipality
hae = search
tyhjennä = clear
This is a very useful service. :)

Anyway, the correct shipcode for that airport is 01530 and the town is Vantaa :)

Just look at the URLs in this thread. You can see easily to which postcode directory they apply.

Good point - I bought something on a plane between France and Ireland - I didn't enter the note because I had no idea where to enter it. Anyone any ideas what to do with it?
If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.
