SHAME ON SPAIN !

Post by BossaNova »

last Saturday...

PORTUGUESE POLITICIANS BEATEN BY SPANISH POLICE

The attempt by a group of Portuguese demonstrators, led by Bloco de Esquerda (Left Block) politicians Francisco Louca and Miguel Portas, to travel to Seville to take part in an anti-globalisation protest, was violently repelled by a group of Spanish Guardia Civil, which invoked reasons of national security to turn back the sis bus-loads of young demonstrators.

The Spanish police had allowed the two politicians to enter the country, provided that the remaining demonstrators turned back but Francisco Louca and Miguel Portas refused to accept personal privileges. After an initial discussion, in which the police were informed by Francisco Louca that the group of demonstrators had every right to enter Spain because they were EU citizens, the 13 Guardia Civil agents became “hysterical” and started pushing and beating the demonstrators back into the buses.

Several policemen entered the buses and confiscated rolls of film from passengers which had registered the incident.

I'm not against globalisation, and I don't belongue to this party, but I can't agree with agressions against people that just wanted to cross the border and pacificaly protest, this guys never done any violent manif! the spanish cops did, and all this was cam recorded by RTP, our public tv station!

another incedent, in another point of the border, happened with the comunist and green party, also with violence, and also against Shengen treaty.. I know that the Shengen treaty allows a country to close the borders, but the spanish embassy said they could cross the border, because the borders would not be closed!

but let's talk seriously, what happened was that a group of drunk and irritated spanish cops (Korea wan Spain that morning), attacked violently 2 portuguese politicians, one of them member of the house of representatives

if you don't agree with someone, and you want to prove you're better, you just beat that person?????!!!!

again, is this this the free and open europe???????

Globalisation is unavoidable, and there's no way to stop it; I'm not against it, as it can have a positive impact on the whole world, if well driven. But so far, it seems to me the process is moving towards the wrong direction, having profit as the sole purpose without caring of people
BTW: the right to protest is the real difference between a democracy and a dictatorship! And when I say protest, I mean pacific protest; destroying shops or MacDonalds is just incivility!

I tottaly agree with you! :D

and I think that the majority of the movements said to be anti-globalisation would also agree with you.. of course there are always some hooligans that love to spoil everything, and this minority are the ones that get the front pages and news headlines...

and look right in front of you, internet is just the better prove that globalisation it's already a reality
