Doublets...
This word puzzle is called Doublets. It is fun for those who like to play with words! I will give you an example on how to play this. You are to take the word Head and turn it into Tail. It will take you 5 words to get from head to tail.
example:
head
heal
teal
tell
tall
tail
notice you are only to change one letter at a time for each word..Does this make sense?
Here is the first one:
Make Bill into Note

I already almost did that. The word list was awfully long. When I found some odd letter combination I needed I googled for it to check if it existed.
However, I understood someone had already managed to invent the needed list, so I didn't make it ready. Anyway, I had gotten the last two letters correct and swapped the consonant-vocal order of the first two letters.
The hardest thing in this game is turning a vocal into a consonant, but luckily there are some letters that are in the middleway between a vocal and a consonant.
Anyway, how do you like the ending I've used?
...
oval
eval
evil
I've got some slight suspection with the word "eval", but I've seen and heard it being used in the meaning "evaluate". Although it's actually originally just a short form of some other word, it's sometimes used as if it was a normal word and therefore I think it should be accepted. However, I'd like to know what you think about it before I try making the list of gazillion words again..
And hey, how do I select only four-letter long words from /usr/share/dict/words in unix? (yes, unix has a file that is actually a list of random English words. Has apparently 96274 in it :D

Ko saka āboliņš? Pēk pēk pēk!
I think I managed to do it, at least with some explanations.
nice
lice
lace
lane
sane
sand
said
slid
slim
slum
slug
slur
alur
Amur
amir
emir
Emil
evil
As you can see, I had to use the past tense couple of times (said, slid), find words I've never heard of but which a dictionary recognizes (alur, amir), use synonyms (amir, emir) and use proper nouns (Amur, Emil), but I think that does the job. Or can it be made shorter from this?
Edit: Managed to drop one word away.
Edit2: Doh, two more words were completely needless.
