What music on your own funeral?

Post by Wouter1 »

Ok, this may be a confronting topic, but it's something that will happen to us all eventually.
So why not put some thoughts into the choice of music. After all: it's your goodbye.

Here are my choices. They each reflect a period from my life sofar. Besides that, the titles all are rather symbolic:

* Spread your wings - Queen (as a teenager a was a huge Queen fan)
* Dimm all the lights - Donna Summer (Disco music from the 70s and 80s is still on of my passions. And dance music on a funeral makes it more the party I would like it to be)
* The return of the space cowboy - Jamiroquai (My all time favorite song)

Please share your songs and thoughts on this topic.

I'm just listening to In the air tonight by Phil Collins. Seems appropriate too.

I've got no idea what will be played at my funeral. I hope it's a long time from now so I've got nothing arranged for it yet.
I do know one thing: I'm a member of a fanfare (music group) and it is custom that when a member dies, he/she is escorted to his/her grave with music: Marche Funèbre by Chopin. Most of the times we also play something in the church and at the grave.
I would like this too.

I got some candidates:

Road to nowhere (Talking Heads)
And She Was (Talking Heads)
I can see clearly now
Heading for the Light (Travelling Wilburies)
Spirit in the Sky (Norman Greenbaum)
Within You, Without You (G. Harrison)
Galaxy Song (Monty Python)
Turn! Turn! Turn! (The Byrds)
Break on Through (The Doors)

I gave up "They're Coming to Take Me Away" (Napoleon the 14th).
