Removing users

Post by bhoeyb »

Webmaster,
Another question from the Dutch forum: would it be possible to remove users without a registrated Euro bill out of the database (after a month)? Our amount of users would be more realistic that way ... :)
Thanx :!:

A nice statistic would also be # of active users last ... days (month or so). I mean: the really active users will enter at least one note each week.

IMHO some users will become disapointed when they come back after a few months on this site to start Eurobilltracking and find out, that they can no longer participate.....

I guess some of the new users maybe look around on the site for some longer time and get more active later...

I should suggest:

Any new user should have some time, to get started, as long as he / she doesn't use usernames or links that are provocative: Welcome!
If you don't like traveling, just watch where your Eurobill goes and let the banknote do the travelling for you!!

At least one note per month, not per week. What happens if one goes at least one week on vacation to a place with no internet access (yes, there are such places!). :) I drop two ideas:

1-
Maybe it is possible to write a script, which would run on the first day of each month, and removes users without a single note entered.

2-
And there are a few banknotes whose serial number and code do not match. Go to complete lists - tables. Take this example: with printer code D (Finland) there are today:
12940 L notes
5 X notes (error entering the serial or short code?)
1 N note (error entering the serial or short code?)

Shouldn't those errors be removed from the database?

Or places without Euro's :!: :!: there are even more places like that.

I like to take long vacations so it happens that i'm out of the country for more then a month!
I agree!
I can not register any more bill, but I will certainly do it again as soon as I come back home.

I don't think you can just remove inactive people.
When someone has entered at least 1 note, they should stay member.
Because maybe one day their note will return, and they get a hit, and maybe then they become active again.

I think we should just delete members who are registered for a month, and still didn't enter one single note.

Maybe it’s better to send them a mail that if they don’t log in within the next month their account will be removed. This way you make sure you are not deleting 'tourist' users, users the other site of the world who never had an Euro in their hands up till now, but may come some day to Europe to get and spend some bills.

Such a mail could be sent after lets say 3 months of inactivity. It’s just something I quickly though about so there may be roam for improvement on this idea. :P

Everybody who ever entered a bill is a user ...

I think there is great potential (in bills) in the inactive users. After all, they once were tickled to enter their first bill ... So maybe it is a good idea to send them a friendly reminder of our existence, after a longer period of inactivity. (is 3 months enough ? I think they still remember after 3 months. What about 5 to six months ?)

I'm not sure it would be interesting to send a reminder to someone who never entered a bill. They came in here, registered, checked it out, didn't like it, and never came back.

I still don't understand why this site is so popular in some some countries, and does not exist at all in others. If it is a success in Portugal why doesn't it take of in Spain ? Is see potential in Spain & Italy as well.
Time is on our side ...

the few users from those 2 countries need to do some more publicity.. that's the secret of course..

a small news in a newspaper can make a lot of difference.. it was a note in a portuguese newspaper that brought more users that brought more users that brought even more users..

we'll catch France very soon I think

and this is strange, since Portugal is by far the smallest latin country..

France, Italy and Spain wake up!
