marking of bills

Post by eurobillsandcoins »

Since I deal with so much euro should I mark them all and hand them out to customers in transactions. (mark-write eurobilltracker on all of them)

err...yeah ;)

Apparently, you cannot be prosecuted for it. But it seems like some central banks will remove damaged bills from circulation.

I would therefore making the mark non intrusive, like writing on the edges...

You had NOT better do it, because banks will remove them from circulation and destroy them...

There has been a topic on this issue on this forum. maybe it will help you to read this topic, to make a decision what to do..

I suggest: just mark some banknotes (the old and greasy ones) and not all your euronotes.... It is all up to you of course, but I think it would be a shame, to have a large part of the Canadian registred Eurobanknotes distroyed..

Whatever you decide, we do like your support on EBT very much
Keep entering the bills in the system from Canada! :P
If you don't like traveling, just watch where your Eurobill goes and let the banknote do the travelling for you!!

Of,course I only mark the edges and the bills still look nice. I use red pen so it is noticeable. I dont mark the 5E bills I mark half of the 10,20,50 and I mark all the 100,200,500. I'm thinking of getting a custom stamp though. So I can mark them all and they still look clean and nice  Looking forward to response. :D Cheers from Canada.

I'm not sure if it's a good idea to mark all the biggest notes, I think that central banks are more careful with the looks of bigger notes than the smller ones. I don't have any facts about this, I just feel it could be this way. Who really cares what a 5e note looks like anyway? Well, I do, but bigger notes often look cleaner.

A friend of mine used to work in a shop for years. According to him it is not wise to mark the bank notes in Finland. I heard that they got many notes with writing, numbers, pictures or calculations. They didn't put those notes back to circulation. They were returned to the bank with dirty, very wrinkled and torn notes. So maybe (in Finland) marking bills is not a good idea. :?

Yeah, marking bills is stupid. Not only are they taken out of circulation and you are also destroying property of your government because you don´t really own these bills. You don't write on walls in public buildings either, or do you?

Okay, let me clear things up. I only mark the soiled, used and almost ready to be tipped into a shredder. I mark. I don't mark notes that are new, clean, crispy or had very little use. Okay?

Okay, so: in some countries people feel this way, but this rule is not for the whole of Europe

I am certain that in Holland, Belgium, Portugal, Spain, Italy and France, all the banks will accept the money from Toronto

At least I am sure that the Dutch money shops will accept it  they accept all banknotes, as long as they are real 8)

Marking a bill doesn't destroy it. Marking a bill is sort of making the bill intentionally dirty in a structured way.

Destroying a bill is more of using scissors to cut it to little pieces. Or burning the bill. Destroying a bill seems to be illegal in Belgium (at least it was illegal with the Belgian Francs banknotes, so I assume it is also the case with the Euro banknotes).

Antti, is your friend a mouse perhaps? Mice love eurobills :!:
I've read a story of someone from Austria who had lots of 500 euro notes (more than 15.000 euros :!: :!: ). He/she had put the notes in a safe, but for some reason a mouse had been able to enter the safe and had eaten the bills except for some tiny pieces :!: . I don't make this up, this story is true :!:

Eating a 5E bill? was it crisp? If it wasnt it would have been quite unhealthy to eat it and disgusting. By the way,how could something as fat as a mouse sneak into a vault????????????????? Like, all vaults are sealed tight or they have no purpose. Where did you hear the mouse ate 30 500 euro bills? Thats almost impossible. A single mouse is too small to eat so many bills. But it could be a joke? Some people will find it funny but frankly I don't as I have more than E500,000-E1,000,000 (at certain times).

Also the mouse would have died after probably 1 note. Because of the tribitulyn contamination in all euro bills. A mouse would have been less tolerant.
