I believe LArdennais meant state capitals (at least that's what I derived from "main cities of US States).
If so, for C there's Columbus, OH (and several others)

Note that the largest metropolitan areas in Ohio also begin by C: Cincinatti and Cleveland.
Now for the D, I choose:
Des Moines, IA

If I interpreted LArdennais correctly, there's no E (not even if you also accept largest cities per state as an answer). Also no G, Q, U, X, Y or Z. Also, no Q, X or Z with population over 100,000.
