Yes, I know there is a coin of 2$. I have some in my wallet! :-) The bank of Canada is not printing any new bill of 2€ but you can still use them into shops, like you can use all the old bills you have.

Don't forget that you need 1,55$ to get 1 € .
2 $ is 1,33 €

First, I thought it was not necessary, but I changed my mind. we have to know that a lots of people use the euro as a reserve currency, especially in Africa and the Balkans. For them, a note of 1 € has a real value. You can change it in a bank.

It would help the euro to be a real international currency. It would also be a good way for the european tourists to get a "pourboire" in the restaurants, etc... You can let two or three notes of one euro...
I totaly agree with you! I don't need this note, here we already had the 200$ coin, that's exactly 1 euro, but I think it would be good for the internationalization of the currency.. I don't see any problem in having notes and coins of the same value circulating.. that happened many times in many places..

That is 1ct 2ct 5ct and 10ct.

I always take them out of my wallet, because I never use them (a drink in the vending machine at school is 40ct or 50ct, so no need for smaller coins than 20ct :D).
That is probably the reason why the diffusion of these small coins is going so much slower than for the bigger coins, as was found by the eurocoin-trackers in The Netherlands and Belgium http://www.wiskgenoot.nl/eurodiffusie/index.html (in Dutch)
For example, over 84% of the 1-cent coins in Belgium is still Belgian, while for the 1-euro coin, this is only 66%, the rest is foreign.

I have a small collection of euro coins. It's not representative, since I don't collect more than two pieces of a kind, so I often leave French or Luxembourgish coins in my wallet. (I live in south-western Germany, 10 km from the French border and about 80 km from the Grand Duchy.) Besides, I sometimes trade coins with others, so I didn't find each of the coins I have here. The last I did find here was a 10 cent coin from Spain.

And here's what I have (excluding coins from Germany and France):
- 7 times 2€ (including my only Greek coin)
- 7 times 1€
- 8 times 50¢
- 4 times 20¢
- 6 times 10¢
- 4 times 5¢
- 2 times 2¢ (only Luxembourg)
- 4 times 1¢

So I do have less foreign copper coins, but there are no major differences. Again, my collection is not representative at all.

Last poll about the bill of 1 euro (for the Commission):

83,7% of the people think the number of the notes is OK.
78% if the Italians think so and 68,5% of Greeks too...

I'd like a bill of 1 euro. It's easier to change when you are overseas...

Well I don't even use my 5e notes, so I can't see myself using 1e notes.

You don't use your €5 notes? What do you do with them then?

Wait a minute, I think I don't want to know...

They just hang around at my deskdrawer, i usually use only 10e and 20e notes, and coins. I don't like paying with 5e notes, if I have a 10e note that I can use.

Aha, ok, I read your other posts now as well. Funny, I never keep money at home. I just take money frome the machine when I need it. Well, now with ETB I have to get it a bit in advance :).

the problem with 5 euro notes is:
There aren't any smaller notes!
So when you pay with 5 euro, you'll never get another note in return !!

! € note

Post by John S »

I'm from the US. We have 1 $ coins, but they are not popular. However, I like them and use them often. The paper dollars are often in such deplorable condition that even the machines won't take them. In cases where a machine is "out of order" it is because a dollar bill is jammed in it.

There is no need to have a Euro note just because foreign users would prefer it. That is nonsense. My experience in foreign travel is that banks and other exchange facilities prefer big bills. In fact some even charge more to convert small bills. They are a nuisance to them.

The resistance to the dollar coin in the US is due primarily to laziness and stupidity. The Americans don't like to get use to new things, even if they are better and easier. Also, Americans hate change. Change means the way you have been doing it was bad. It was wrong. The American attitude is very arrogant. We never do anything wrong. We are always right. It is the main reason the US has resisted using the metric system of measurement.

Keep the Euro coin and resist the urge to adopt paper euro bills. You'll be sorry if you do!

Finally an American who gets the message. :)
Well, of course not all Americans are stupid, but especially with Bush as their president, we always get that idea here in Europe.

I think you're right.
I like the coins of 1 EUR.
The only reason why I would like notes of 1EUR, is that we get more notes to enter at EBT! :D

Over here, people wish that the €5 note would be replaced with a coin, due to the poor condition of that denomination. This is mostly due to how Irish people handle banknotes - they just get stuffed into their pockets and so get crinkled and worn out very quickly. Despite their wishes for a €5 coin, a national paper reported that the ECB don't have any plans to do so.

So, somehow I don't think a €1 or a €2 would be welcomed here

Well, the ECB has said today that they will study the case of a 1 euro note in 2005. :P
