Foreign currencies

Post by Olivier »

Do you have foreign currencies at home? :-)
(Foreign: I mean not from the Euro-zone)

Coins of your last trips? Notes "in case of"... ?
Where they are from? :-)

I have a little pot, with coins from Denmark, West africa (Franc CFA) and Switzerland. :-)
No bill...

Olivier.

I have a little box with left-overs from many places. I'll open it for you:

I can see coins from UK, USA, Canada, a Russian 100 roobles note, Indonesia, Singapore, Norway, Switzerland, and a handful of $1 notes.

Old coins from the euro zone: Vatican lira, Netherlands, aluminum chips from the GDR, Austria, Spain, Greece, France, Portugal, Germany.

And 2 oversized memorial coins from both a metro inauguration in Hamburg and a natural history museum in Berlin, the latter depicting an Archaeopterix.

I opened a memories box and found quite a lot of coins and bills. I found quite a lot of Hong Kong coins(2000$HK), $1500 HK cash, 14.000 japanese yen, 5200 yen coins, 100$ U.S. in bills and $10 coins. I found a Canadian 100 from 1935 and about 50$ in older coins. To european, I found a 1963 500 Franc bill, a 10000 ancien franc bill (Bonaparte), a Cezanne 100. Found about 200F worth of coins, I found, very suprising a 10000 BEF bill, a 2000 and a 1000. I found a couple of D-Mark (100DM) in bills and a few coins, I found quite a few British 1 pound bills, I found a ton of Dutch coins and a 250 gulden note. Theres more, I havent sifted through yet. I still have a long list of bills to go through.

It's funny to see that we all have very different coins and bills in our collection. :-)
It depends on the countries we have visited before...

I'm not sure, but I think that some Scottish banks have right to release their own notes. And I think that same goes for Northern Ireland, too. (I'm not so sure about that, I guess they use the euro alot there, at least near the borderline)

Yes K3lvin this is true, there were at least 4 or 5 different banks issuing notes. It was confusing for my tellers when I had the exchange office.

BTW: Anyone here have a good 1000 dutch gulden of the most recent issue? I need it to complete a album containing an example from every country, every denomination of legacy currency. They were only the most modern ones, no previous notes. I will trade or buy from you if its reasonable, PM if you can make an offer! I can trade for maybe a full complete stack of Ensor 100 BEF bills.I can sell a such bundle for 450-500€.

I wonder if UK ever joins to the eurozone, will there be Scottish, English, Northern Irish and Welsh eurocoins?

EDIT: I read some info on Scottish notes from http://www.scotbanks.org.uk/ and according to it all Scottish banks issuing notes have diffirent looking notes! So for example they have at least 3 diffirent looking £20 notes:

How on earth they cope with this?!
