If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

Yes I was also mainly thinking of Dance/Electro when I wrote this. I could add The Prodigy, Daft Punk, Fatboy Slim, Konsole and many more to the list. But not only that these acts could be found in the charts, I found that the whole pop music was more influenced by electronics (for example Björk with Hyperballade) and was much better. On the other hand, even if you wanted to hear rock or hip hop, you could find it in the charts a s well. Nowadays, if one band is succesfull there will be 10 clones published by the industry, it is just terrible. Not to talk of European hip hop, may it be German, French or Dutch (never heard a dutch song, though. Thankfully, probably!)Elmo wrote: I can't agree more!
10 years ago DJ Paul Elstak entered the Dutch Top 40 at place 10, after they
had some other hits (like "Luv u more" and "Rainbow high in the sky").
Nowadays there is so-called "Nederhop": Hip-hop in Dutch! It sounds awful:
Dutch is no language for hip-hop! I am sick of Ali B, K-liber, Lange Frans & Baas B!
Where are the days when artists like DJ Paul Elstak, the Party Animals, Dune,
Charly Lownoise & Mental Theo and many other ruled the charts?

it was the year for blockbuster movies, films like jurassic park, the rock, twister, titanic (release date in germany was in january 1997) the long kiss goodnight came to the cinemas.
and what else...
Oliver Bierhoff shot the golden goal...
And...
it was almost ten years since DJ Mark Spoon announced twomillion visitors at the Loveparade, Mark Spoon loved to tease the crowd by exaggerate a bit ("Ihr seid so leise..."). Last weekend, Mark Spoon was found dead in his flat in Berlin. First news sayed that he died because of a heart-attack. The police stated, that no drugs have been found in his blood, they don't know by now, what causes the heart-attack. Closer friends of Mark Spoon reported, that maybe, Mark Spoon was ill, he has lost almost 30kg of weight in the last weeks.
His biggest success was a duo called "Jam & Spoon" formed together with the Frankfurt-based producer Jam El-Mar in the early 1990s, originally released on the belgian record-label R&S Records. Maybe, here's also someone who remembers dancefloor-fillers like "Stella" or later "Right in the night".
You're not forgotten...
