... or imagine being a devoted Muslim living up in the North, and following the Ramadan rules of not eating between the sunrise and sunset. At 23 pm they're bound to become a bit hungry and restless. When are we going to eat? Well, the sun is about to set in two months from now... :P

Well.. I of course try to eat between 16:00 and 18:00. That's because if one eats just before he goes sleeping, he doesn't sleep as well as he would, if he ate a few hours before going to sleep.
If you gotta wake up at 06:30, around 22:00 is when you should go sleeping to get enough sleep.

Although I try eating at the abovementioned time, I often end up eating as late as at around 19:00-20:30 because I come home/wake up from the computer so late.

 Well, my friend says I am hungry all the time. It is midnight and I just ate a slice of pizza.

Maybe these "northern" dinner times have something to do with the every day working hours in the countryside. People usually did wake up between 5 am and 6 am. They had some coffee, before they went doing the farm works ( feeding animals, milking etc) Everything was done at 9 am. Then they did eat (maybe some porridge and bread) at 10 o´clock, but not as much as people nowadays eat at lunch time. Then women started baking and doing other household works and men had their own jobs. In the afternoon women started cooking dinner that was served before 17.00. Then it was time to feed animals, milk etc. They finished working between 7pm and 8 pm. After work they ate the evening meal (and coffee) , but not as much as in dinnertime. People went sleeping before 9 pm, so there were hardly any time for cooking in the evening.

I usually eat around 18.30, when I eat with other people (friends, ...).
At home we usually eat around 20h because my dad has to work until 19.30.

But now I have exams, and I just eat when I feel like it.
I wake up around 13h every day, eat a meal at the students restaurant (that's my breakfast :p).
Around 19h I eat dinner/lunch and between 2 and 4 I eat some cookies or chocolates before I go to bed around 5h...

A common joke was: Why is Aldi (cheap supermarket chain) open until 6:30 PM? Because students wake up at 6. :)

Due to my very stressing job (export sales) I eat dinner quite irregularly. If I am lucky, I eat around 7 p.m., but mostly it is between 8pm and 9 pm, provided I am not still in the office that time - shit happens.

At the week-ends, everything is different: As I finish my breakfast hardly before 11 a.m., I have lunch between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., when the "good" people have their coffee and cake. So, on such days there is no need for dinner.

Airis, your cultural explanation of why you might have such different dinner times in Finland is very interesting! :D

My dinner time depends on many things, so I answered 7pm.. On mondays we must eat quite early, before 6 pm 'cause dad must hurry to his chessclub then. On other weekdays we either eat after 7.30 pm when mum is back from her visit to granny (granny is paralyzed and lives in old people's home nowadays), or a bit earlier if mum doesn't have to go anywhere. Quite often we just eat bread on dinner time and cold supper at around 9pm. So, though we always gather together for dinner time, the actual time is not so formal or regular in my family.

Hong Kong people are interesting, they eat dinner at different times everyday, such as 3 days ago, I ate dinner at 17h with some friends, 2 days ago I was eating a cup of noodles at a 7-11 at 130h, and last night 21h eating with family.

Well I´m Portuguese, and like most of our people I eat dinner arround 20:00-21:00, sometimes after 22:00, it´s difficult fou us eating before because we rarelly get home before 19:30, and cooking mediterranian (I hope this is the way it is written) food takes some time.

I don't think it would be difficult for me to eat dinner at 18:00 il I was living in northen europe, we have to adapt to the ways of the coutry, like in Brasil... where people wake up before 5:00 am....
